But don't you agree that no promising scientific hypothesis on the subject appeals to miraculous revelation/enlightenment? Such hypotheses, it seems to me, are either falsified (as in scientific tests of the efficacy of intercessory prayer) or are not falsifiable. So although we do not know which hyoptheses will turn out to be correct, the serious contenders are devoid of supernatural appeals. Do you see what I'm saying? (I hope that, like Dwight from the TV show 'The Office', you'll un-shun me.... )

I do agree that nothing points to the supernatural, yes. Is that what you were asking?

Since the thread's been resurrected, I thought I'd answer this in more detail.

While I agree that there's nothing supernatural about them (hardly shocking, as I do not believe in the supernatural), one of the serious contenders is indeed revelation. Theophany happens, and it probably played a major role in the development of religion and the concept of God.

As I said, I do not believe that theophany has a supernatural source, simply because I do not believe in the supernatural. However, I acknowledge the possibility.

Well, I don't think it's complete BS. The vast majority of the time, in English, when someone capitalizes "God", it refers to Christianity. Other religions and philosophies have taken the name to refer to different ideas.

Now, as far as how it relates to this thread, I couldn't say. I haven't read enough of the thread to know, but I gather that a capitalized "God" in this thread would probably refer to a lot more than just Christianity.

Now, as far as how it relates to this thread, I couldn't say. I haven't read enough of the thread to know, but I gather that a capitalized "God" in this thread would probably refer to a lot more than just Christianity.

The Christian God isn't named God, either. That's just cultural baggage. Anyway, had you been paying the slightest bit of attention, it would have been beyond obvious that I wasn't discussing Christianity.

I find it hard to believe that you've been around here for 4 years, and still don't understand the basics like this.
