Does the Bible Promote Literalism?

I think "claim" is the operative word here.

No doubt. I've always assumed that most who claim to read the bible, greatly exaggerate how much time they've spent reading and reflecting on it. This seems to be borne out by how little many of them seem to know about the bible when questions arise.

True, although it works both ways. A lot of people condemn the Bible without bothering to read it too. My first sig in here said, 'There's nothing funnier than watching a skeptic who hasn't read the Bible arguing with a Christian who hasn't read it either".
