Does the name of Jesus irk you?

As an atheist I had a revulsion for the name of Jesus. Seeing these people with their suit, ties, Bibles, and preaching and praying in the name of Jaesus made me want to puke. They insist everyone is going to hell for not believing in their imaginary friend , then claim they have good news. Quite sickening.

Does it irk you to hear the name of Jesus? Do you ever find that name to be annoying?

a lot of people misrepresent Christ Jesus and the Father, describe God and Jesus in terms of their own human nature - that irks me very much.

Yea, it is written in the Book of Cyril...
No? I can disassociate the name from the obnoxious fans. Comes from being a nerd and having to like something despite what other people do with it. *Points at Star Trek, Star Wars, Harry Potter fandom.*
I find that grossly offensive! Please don't ever suggest Star Wars fans are equivalent to Star Trek fans. Even the annoying ones.

The irritating thing is that Christians use the name Jesus, when the name of the person they allegedly claim to follow was Yeshua.
As someone else said, anglicizing it would give you Joshua. Or simply say the Lord. Many good options besides using a anglicized latinized greekized  Hebrew name.

The only thing I can see is that you thought you were an atheist, but you had not made peace with your choice.

12“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father. " He - This name (yours) is important.:)

I feel your pain. People idol worship the words "Jesus Christ". People treat Jesus and their religion like their favorite NFL football team. It's all about the fandom not about the content.

No. I don't feel irked. I didn't feel irked when I was an atheist either. If I did, I would probably avoid places like RF. :p

Nope. I have no issues with Jesus. And I have plenty of Christian friends, so I can avoid the broad-brush thing.

Some people who do things in his name are obviously ***-clowns, though.

That had nothing to do with you being an atheist, it was (and remains) an entirely individual and personal issue you need to work though. Please stop trying to tar other people with your own failings.

Ditto, it's a bit of a strange question, really. Why should it bother anyone?
Because of who is using it and how they use it made it an annoying name to hear for me and I had a repugnance for it.... just thought I'd ask if others can relate... guess not!

No, but for many years I could not use the word "god." Like most Americans, my understanding of the word "god" revolved around the teachings of specific Western religious traditions until I discovered contemporary Paganism was a thing in my 20s. Even then, I reviled the word "god" and could not use it to describe anything. The struggle to reclaim the meaning of the word "god" in a Pagan or polytheistic context was the biggest challenge of my first couple years exploring those religious traditions. It took a few more years beyond that to really start "getting" theistic mindsets outside of the typical monotheist/Christian ones.

It's harrowing to think about, really. I had left any formal indoctrination into a Christian religion before I'd even hit two figures in age. Yet the cultural pervasiveness of Christian teachings and classical monotheism is so intense that this doesn't matter. You will end up thinking inside their box anyway. You also won't realize the box is there. That's the power of cultural norms.
