Does the name of Jesus irk you?

Because of who is using it and how they use it made it an annoying name to hear for me and I had a repugnance for it.... just thought I'd ask if others can relate... guess not!

As an atheist I had a revulsion for the name of Jesus. Seeing these people with their suit, ties, Bibles, and preaching and praying in the name of Jaesus made me want to puke. They insist everyone is going to hell for not believing in their imaginary friend , then claim they have good news. Quite sickening.

Does it irk you to hear the name of Jesus? Do you ever find that name to be annoying?
That name does cause negative feelings in me, but not outright revulsion. I don't have strong emotions regarding that literary figure.

Regarding evangelists, in the past sometimes when I was bored, I'd go speak with them. They were usually easy to talk into logical paradoxes and provided entertainment for me. Their dire pronouncements of hell is a source of amusement. They are telling me about a nonexistent place, using a deeply flawed bible, and don't get a say in where my soul goes anyways.

My strong emotion of revulsion is reserved for missionaries. They like to prey on the weak or ignorant. Any help they provide always comes with strings to their idol worship. They are despicable people.

Not at all. It's the behaviors and actions in his name that I find annoying and irk-worthy, not the name itself.

I've actually enjoyed watching Jesus Montero, Jesus Agluilar, and Jesus Alou play baseball.

I get it. There are always a few jerks in any large crowd... unless they are Democrats -- of course. :)

Only when it is used as a swear word. It makes me sad when His Name is used as an expression of disgust at someone or something else.

I have to wonder why your reaction to His Name is so severe? That's an almost religiously fanatic reaction, it seems to me. There are many different belief systems and philosophical stands that I don't agree with, but I don't get the sort of visceral reaction you are describing when I hear words and names associated with them.

For instance, as murderous as Stalin, Pol Pot and Mao were, simply hearing their names doesn't make me 'want to puke." Neither does the name of John Calvin, whose ideas and belief system are probably the scariest I've heard about.

Doesn't bother me. I like hero figures outwitting and defeating the bad guy.

Jesus is no Billy Jack mind you although I'll give him points for causing a ruckus with the money changers.

No, I have no particular objection to Jesus as a purported historical character.

Though, his common modern portrait as a handsome clean-shaven 35 yo Nordic bourgeois with long chestnut locks and fresh white nylon frock is a pretty wild misrepresentation of a "Mediterranean Jewish peasant", as Crossan put it.

Its those who use the name as a threat to anyone who holds different beliefs that i find irksome

I have no problem with the name of Jesus or with Jesus.

I only have a problem with Christians who insist that Jesus is going to return. ;)

I had a friend who had a crazy belief. She believed that a lot of people who weren't in a church was possessed by some kind of evil spirit and if you felt some kind of revulsion or etc by the mention of Jesus the evil spirit in you was trembling at the mere mention of Jesus's name. Now that was a crazy belief that she had, but man she was pretty. Very pretty.

The opposite.

Jesus the Christ gives the longing to be a better person and to be kind to and help all Humanity.

Without Christ we do not exist, we do not have the ability to accept or reject the Love of which Jesus the Christ is.

Stay well and happy.

The name doesn't bother me either. I'm not like the Knights Who Say "Ni!" for whom the word "it" is painful. Rather, what people have done and do in that name concerns and distresses me.

I would offer, that if they were In that name, there would be no problems. In is really of.

With is a different story. Many do with Gods Names many things that are not of God.

No person is exempt from making these mistakes.
