Does the US need a third party to take control

We Never Know

No Slack
Like several here I don't like the left or right.

1. Do we need a third party to form and grow

2. You want to stick with the left as your party

3. You want to stick with the right as your party.

4. You...... Speak your own peace

We don't need anybody to "take control." Historically, parties, groups or individuals taking control of countries has led to regrettable outcomes.
I think we'd do better as a country of, by and for the people, that is, a social democracy.

By control I'm referring to our crooked, corrupt, rich politicians that are out of control in some ways.

The solution to this mess is quite simple. But it requires that the American people unify and focus on the goal of taking back control over their government. (As was always intended.)

We need to do two things.

1. We need lots more "regular people" running for office. Those are people that are not wealthy elites or paid toadies for the wealthy elites. Those are people with an honest actual work history doing honest actual work.
2. We need to VOTE OUT EVERY INCUMBENT IN EVERY ELECTION REGARDLESS OF PARTY unless and until the candidate shows that he/she has acted and will continue to ACT to stop the legalized bribery and corruption of our political representatives (and not just TALK about doing something).

We need to make it crystal clear to every person in political office that they are gone in the next election cycle if they do not actively fight to restore the government to serving the will and well-being of the people. And NOT of the big billion-dollar corporate donors that pay for their bribes and perks and campaign expenses. And that hire their family members for big dollar do-nothing jobs and then hire themselves to corrupt their replacements once they leave office.

This does not mean they serve OUR SPECIFIC DESIRES in every way regarding all things. It means they serve the will and well-being of the whole segment of the public that they were elected to represent. We, the public, will not always agree on what is best for us, but before we can even bother to debate it, and seek the best solution, we need to know that our government is listening to the debate, is hearing what we say, and that it cares about doing what's best for the most people.

Please God not the Libertarians or Greens.

What we need, if not a third major party, is for the two big parties to be Big Tents again. This is what enabled their survival for 150 years. Unfortunately this will require political compromise, which the Zeitgeist now regards as weak (on the right and left).

What's wrong with the Greens in the US? I know very little about them other than that they're environmentalist and socialist, at least on paper, and that their stances on the Ukraine war are highly questionable. I doubt they'll ever become as influential as either major party in the US, in any case.

I think multiple parties would help. But until we get oligarchs out of politics, none of that will matter.

They're uber-leftist (perhaps you view that as a plus; I don't) and have a history of flirting with pseudoscience and Russia-simping.

Whether I would view that as a plus would depend on what their specific views were. After all, even what is "uber-leftist" (or leftist at all) is largely region- and country-specific. Are they Marxist-Leninists, for example? Or are they merely libertarian or democratic socialists in their leanings?

I definitely consider supporting pseudoscience and endorsing apologetics for Putin's regime to be major negatives, though.

It would be nice if all candidates were presented equally and if we got rid of the “parties” instead we focused on the policies

You can't run for office without lots and lots of money which comes from the wealthy elites.

I don't see how that will ever happen. There aren't enough people willing to unify.

The better action would be to 1., overturn Citizens United, 2., ban corporate lobbying, and 3. disrupt the current symbiotic relationship between corporations and political process.

Thanks!

Skimming that, a lot of it seems too impractical. Out of the parts I've read, this bit about "complementary therapies" and the "Great Hospital" made me wince a little:

We support the shift in modern medicine to include healing through complementary therapies and engagement with the Great Hospital (Nature). We seek, in short, to facilitate the healthy unfolding of the person within the unfolding story of the family, community, bioregion, state, nation, and Earth community.

So much flowery language (no pun intended) that says little to nothing of substance and doesn't cite any actual science.

I'm all for the Foreword Party once it gets itself situated.

Former disgruntled Democrats and Republicans working together. What a concept.

Keeping fingers crossed.
