Does the US need a third party to take control

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
By control I'm referring to our crooked, corrupt, rich politicians that are out of control in some ways.
It's absolutely disgusting on how politicians act over the potential or continued acquisition of political power.

It looks like a deranged mental illness has taken over their minds and it's all they ever think about and nothing else.

I'm all for the Foreword Party once it gets itself situated.

Former disgruntled Democrats and Republicans working together. What a concept.

Keeping fingers crossed.
Go donate to them. It's irrelevant if someone is former disgruntled whoever.
That's a talking point and sales pitch to influence the easily influenceable. (it worked on you)

Maybe you should know the party was founded by Andrew Yang (D) former candidate for president from last election.

Seems you imply and apparently agree now that Democrats throw sales pitches and talking points for the easily influenced such as myself. "0)

You can't run for office without lots and lots of money which comes from the wealthy elites.
We need to support them, ourselves.
I don't see how that will ever happen. There aren't enough people willing to unify.
Well, we'd better become willing, or we're going to lose even what semblance of democracy we have left.
The better action would be to 1., overturn Citizens United, 2., ban corporate lobbying, and 3. disrupt the current symbiotic relationship between corporations and political process.
We can't overturn Citizens United until we get control of our own legislature. And they are not going to give it up, willingly. In fact, we can't fix anything until we do that. To do that, we have to throw them out EVERY TIME, so they know they cannot keep their cushy jobs unless they do as we insist, and give up the corporate money.

Why I Joined, Then Left, the Forward Party

The desire to fix the political process doesn’t necessarily convey the ability to make change happen.

. . . . There is absolutely a way to build a big-tent third party in the United States. Forward could have an impact if it would acknowledge the need to build a functional organization and settle on some political ideology beyond electoral reform. But when a party’s platform is no more specific than “free people,” “thriving communities,” and “vibrant democracy,” leaders are essentially saying “good vibes, good people—trust us.” Voters will respond accordingly.

Like several here I don't like the left or right.

1. Do we need a third party to form and grow

2. You want to stick with the left as your party

3. You want to stick with the right as your party.

4. You...... Speak your own peace
We already have a 3rd party which is seeking to take total control away from the traditional Democrats and Republicans. It's the party of the soon-to-be convicted felon Donald Trump, the "MAGA" party. The old Republican party is just caught in its tow at the moment, but hopefully enough with actual American courage will stand up and take the party back from this emergent American Fascist party.

How will it be different than what we have? I see most people just want a different label, and can't articulate any changes.

They will have to play by the same rules as other parties, so where is the change? What policies would a third party advocate that is different? Farther right? Farther left?

Why not create a movement for election reform instead?

I think traditional republicans should take back the party and rebuild, and let MAGA be a third party that has to fight for its survival. That would take courage, so won't happen.

I think the only hope of that happening will be if they crawl up out of the ashes when they their candidate for president becomes a convicted felon, is put into prison, and resoundly loses the election. Then maybe. They have to cut ties with the fascists who wish to end democracy.

The control was supposed to have come from the Judicial branch of government. Unfortunately that has now been taken over by party politics, so I'm not sure where we go from there.

I've never been a fan of Yang. I couldn't care less about the "Forward" party. You believe it's filled with disgruntled people, I don't care.
That's the sales pitch.

Are there any documented Republicans yelling , "Fascism wins"?

While having a third party might have its advantages, most places (counties, communities, etc) (I live in one of them) are so one party that there is rarely a candidate run by the minority party for most offices. And if there is an incumbent, there mostly won't even be a primary challenger. I haven't had a serious choice for state representative or state senator in close to 20 years, and about the same for US representative (although redistricting recently changed the party with the majority power in my district)...Don't even get me started about the county and local governments...

It would be nice if I could have a choice of serious candidates for each office in the primaries, and for serious candidates for each office from BOTH of the major parties in the general elections...

Unfortunately, can't vote 'em out of office if there isn't a challenger of any stripe...Need to introduce a mandatory "None of the above" option for voting...

No, the US needs there to be no political parties.

the problem will always be that there are too few candidates--too few alternatives--running at every level of office. If there isn't a second choice or more choice, how does ranked voting or other systems work?

We need a new voting system entirely. I like the instant runoff design but there are several other ones that I also like.
There is too much money in our elections, and it seems most goes to the most popular, not the best. As we see the most popular republicans are the most vile humans.

I'd like to see time limits on the election cycle. Limits on total money, including for pacs. And money sharing among candidates so the small fry have a chance to be heard. I don't care about Citizens United, our election system needs structure and rules.
