Does theism lead to immoral behaviour?

Exaltist Ethan

Bridging the Gap Between Believers and Skeptics
Theism is an excuse for immoral behavior sometimes, but people can have many different excuses to be immoral. I'm immoral when I'm off medications, and when I'm off my meds, I take a strong turn towards atheism. Either way it's a false correlation.

You're absolutely right. It is logically if not metaphysically possible that our current understanding of the laws of physics is flawed, to the point that someone could walk on water.

However, would you believe me if I told you that I have walked on water?
I could ask you, how did you do it. After that I could decide do I believe or not. For me it would be quite irrelevant, which is why I probably would not care about it.

I don't stick my head in the sand..
..I'm just careful not to make the wrong conclusions from a set of data.

It's the conclusion of extensive & rigorous studies.
How much more careful do you need it?

What you want us all to believe, is that it is in our best interests to follow your way of life.

No. I don't want you to "believe" anything. I also don't want, or need, you to share my opinions.
Instead, I want you to be a bit more objective and just look at the actual data.
Your opinions are important, but they don't trump objective data.

My way of life, furthermore, has nothing to do with anything. In a secular democracy, you are free to live whatever way of life you wish, as long as it doesn't include any illegal activity, off course.

I can never agree, however wonderful and attractive it may appear to be.
I am certain that it will end in disaster.

And yet, when asked to pick a country where you would want to live your life if you don't know in advance who you'll be, you picked a democracy and not a theocracy.

Data means nothing in isolation. It has to be interpreted,
and it is easy to reach the wrong conclusion.

That work has already been done. As said already. Multiple times.

SEDI- Same Evidence Different Interpretation,
is perhaps the sorriest of all attempts at
rhetoric.

Win every argument just by
" interpreting" the evidence to
suit any need.

At least, when you see a creationist
or the like resort to it, you know it's a de facto
aamission they've abandonrd all pretense at
reason. Or self respect.

I can't see that you have self respect, so you don't have that. In fact I can't see that you have any value at all, so you are worthless. ;)

But you can can say your reading of the bible is true.
I believe Bible is true in matters that I can't check, because I trust it is correct. And I trust it, because I see it to be correct in many things and I think it shows greater wisdom than what humans have.

What about the Bible do you think is correct?

I'm specifically interested in the things that lead you to trust the parts you can't check.

But the topic was your chosen reading
of the bible.
What do you think makes your interpretations
the correct ones?

As for the Bible being correct on things you
can check, sure, as with any historical novel,
It contains a good many solid facts.

So does any fraud or con game.

A bit of diligence soon shows the Bible
contains many " facts" that are demonstrably false,
from little ones like Pi=3, to long fanciful accounts
like the "flood".
As you know, those two "facts" can be checked
and shown false.

So how do you work that out, a phony story
giving confidence?

My original inquiry was mostly to see if like
so many others you claim God's infallible hand
guides your chosen interpretation.

How do you "know" that your interpretation is the
right one?

As for transcendent wisdom, I didn't see any when
I read it. Maybe you could steer me
toward some example ?

Bible doesn't claim Pi=3. And it is this kind of false claims that make me think atheists, or people who are against the Bible, are the most dishonest people on earth.

What about the Bible do you think is correct?
What it tells about humans. For example:

But know this, that in the last days, grievous times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, no lovers of good, traitors, headstrong, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God; holding a form of godliness, but having denied the power thereof. Turn away from these, also. For of these are those who creep into houses, and take captive gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, always learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
2 Tim. 3:1-7

Bible has been correct also about what happens to Jews, will be scattered and gathered back after a very long time.

And also the knowledge of earth and the great flood, which explains well why earth is as it is nowadays.

That's what you find so compellingly correct that you trust the Bible even on matters you can't check?

Bible has been correct also about what happens to Jews, will be scattered and gathered back after a very long time.

And also the knowledge of earth and the great flood, which explains well why earth is as it is nowadays.

But what the Bible says about a global flood is demonstrably wrong.

Bible doesn't claim Pi=3. And it is this kind of false claims that make me think atheists, or people who are against the Bible, are the most dishonest people on earth.
But your figurin' Adam (1) plus Eve (1)
does not equal a claim of two people. 1+1=2

30 ÷ 10= 3, but not to you?

Of course, another aspect of the Pi=3
prob is for the " Believers" to just accept that
the measurements given in the Bible simply are not
( gasp) accurate!

But that cannot be! The Bible is perfect!

Anyone who points out it is not perfect must be attacked as against the bi le ( as if) and among the
"Mody dishonest on earth". A plainly false and dishonest claim, of course.

Speaking of honest, you carefully
edited out the huge whopper ( lie, phony fact)
that I mentioned next, namely the flood.
There was no flood.

Speaking g of honest-
Ignoring all evidence in favour
of a personally chosen reading of some religious
book is a classic example of intellectual dishonesty.

It's impossible for a creationist with measurable IQ
to be intellectually honest.
