Dogs have more uses, but as pets, it just depends on what your criteria for "good pet" means. I love both, but I prefer cats because they are easier to take care of, and you can go away on trips and they just kind of hang out, and don't need to go outside.

The survey is misleading, because cats are not pets. Cats also are not chattel and can own property.
