Why are they in detention centers?
Xenophobia?

I thought they were criminals.
Nope. And even if they were, would this make them not people?

Anyway, why are they sending them to us?
Because this is a global crisis and the United States isn't pulling its weight: per capita by population, Australia has taken in 4 times as many Syrian refugees as the United States has.

(And Canada has taken in 6 times as many as Australia, per capita)

Would you want other countries to unload their prisons on America? They are just people like everybody else right?

I take issue with this!
It's exactly what you would see in this state....

You're just a word-salad of tinfoil hat nonsense today, aren't you? Seriously, you're like conspiracy theory Cards Against Humanity.

Now that I think about it, why isn't that a thing?!

So as far as the Australian prime minister is concerned they or no better than criminals so he wants to send them here. What kind of friend is that?
I haven't heard any quotes from the Australian PM on the subject, and based on how uninformed you've seemed on this whole issue, I'm guessing that you haven't either.

I read the article. It says they are keeping them in detention centers. That's where you keep criminals.

In Australia, all refugees are automatically detained, even refugees with no criminal history. The policy arose while Australia was dealing with refugees like Vietnamese boat people who would arrive on Australian shore in large numbers. They decided - shamefully and xenophobically, IMO - to have mandatory detention for all refugee claimants while they waited for their decision.

I get it, they don't want them so they want to send them here. What kind of friend is that? I think Trump should give them the bird, and when they learn to trust the refugees enough to let them roam about the country, then ask if we would like some of them.

If you'd rather the US take refugees in from Turkey instead, which is struggling with more than 2 million of them, you would have my full support.

If you took in as many per capita as Canada, the US would need somewhere on the order of 600,000 of them.

It seems like enough man power to wipe out Isis if the powers that be stopped funding and arming Isis. Right? What kind of manufacturing base would Isis have to make weapons for themselves? The way America is, if we took more than 3 refugees, someone would start demanding that we implement Sharia Law to accomodate them. No thanks, leave them in Turkey for a short walk home once Isis is eradicated.

So much for compassion.
