Don't be afraid of being wrong.

Incentive in the extreme. That is the nature of
fundamentalist belief.

Examples abound in this forum.
I bet they all have a group whose support is more worth to them then the acclamation of some people on the internet and the truth together.

well, if you build something that people depend on being done right for their safety,
then you better make certain you are right.....
I have seen many people fired for doing such things wrong, which was the right call.
doctors, lawyers etc any professional people have to maintain this integrity,
and they had better...or else, there is consequence...
even if they do not get caught in their error or intentional wrong-doing [malpractice]
to be cognizant of this type of situation and work to prevent errors is not fear, but pragmatism and common sense, really it is just a good work ethic that is expected of all humans.

In a job situation yes :) the OP was when made more about the spiritual/religious way of right/wrong, but i do get your point :)

why separate it into 2 categories then, given it is as applicable a principle in both arenas?
Because spiritual lifestyle and understanding is what is important to me, the other part is not in focus of my life on earth.

But people will see it different and that is of course ok too.

What does a fundy do when he is wrong.

The curious thing to me is, the same person can be both rational and irrational. I mean, in the sense of "usually rational" or "usually irrational".

Growing up, there was George. George was a master mechanic who owned a gas station. He was also the chief of the volunteer fire fighters. Close to a hard nose realist.

But George in addition to his other roles, was an elder in his fundamentalist church. If you got into a conversation with him about religion, you'd forget all about his ability to logically, systematically identify and fix nearly any problem a motor vehicle could possibly have, for on religious topics he came across as scatter-brained.

About mechanical things, etc he was able to admit when he was wrong -- often with a sense of humor. On religious matters, he was never wrong.

the down side of over-specialization....apparently
