Double lingam

Vanakkam friends,

Just a real quick (stupid also) question :D

It happen that I have two ShivLingams now. One is a simple classic lingam in stone and the other is ek mukhi lingam in brass.

Both have been used to perform Abhisekam but I don't know what to do. Should I let both lingam in my shrine and perform double puja/abhisek every time ?

I've tried to look for information online but the only answers so far have been "you fool ! don't keep lingam at home ! it's inauspicious !"
...
So yeah, not helpful at all.

Should I keep and worship both or only one ?

Thank you

Maybe donate one to a temple? Are you talking about a normal sized lingam like the one in the temples? Wow lol

I'm not educated in this matter, but if your intuition is telling you not to have two lingams in your shrine, yet both are still important to you, you could submerge one in a river if you live near one and do one final puja for it, just so you don't feel like you are disrespecting it.

My wife has lots of Ganesha's different sizes. But for your home shrine, I would only think you should keep one Lingam. That would be the standard. Which is the larger of the two?

Oh it's not a question of intuition, more of practicality. I feel like a Lingam is not like a usual murti and should be properly worshipped, but I also feel it is meaningless to worship more than one lingam... Since you invite God in a murti for the ritual, why two murtis then ?

Lingam are not easy to find so it would be a waste to immerge it. Many devotee already asked me if I could give it to a temple or other devotees, so I think I will go with that, so the lingam can find a new home

I agree that it would be better to just donate it to the temple.

I personally think you should keep the ekamukhI one; it's so much more intricate...

But the beauty is in simplicity. However, it is your choice. BTW, where is the channel for the liquids to flow out in the 'Ekmukhi' lingam?

Vanakkam,

Ek mukhi lingam is the most sophisticated and "beautiful", but it is not my aim actually, to have a "beautiful" lingam. I use the simple stone one for worship and it is the best for me, since lingam is the simplest form of the non form, I understand and meditate easily when there is not the mukhi.

Aupmanyav: there is no channel for the liquid on the ek mukhi one... It seems kind of old, but I doubt it was intended for formal worship, or it would have the channels to drain the liquids of abhisekam

In that case, you can keep the 'ekmukhi linga' as an adornment in the house. Absence of channel means that it is a decoration piece and not for abhishekam. Though you can still decorate it with flowers, garlands, light lamps, put agarbatthies before it, and apply incense, etc., - whatever would please the deity and yourself. You do not necessarily have to part with it. We have Ganeshas, Krishnas, and Shivas too in our house, other than those in the puja niche..
