Double Standards and Hypocrisy

Are double standards always an indicator of hypocrisy?
Yours are but mine aren't.. :D

I've noticed this comes up a lot in the media when there are allegations, although it seems to be different depending on who the target might be.
You only see that in the media because the media is written by human beings.

When asked if he should hold himself to the same standard, he said "there are allegations and then there are allegations." What does that even mean? It sounds like saying "rules for thee but not for me."
That certainly could be double standards (or simply trying to cover his ***) but it is also true that not all allegations of wrongdoing are equal. If one man is accused of touching a woman's butt and another man is accused of raping dozens of children, they obviously shouldn't be treated the same.

It was similar with the Kavanaugh allegations, where Cuomo was among those who said "I believe her," but apparently, we're not supposed to believe allegations made against him.
Apparently? I'm sure some people say that but then some people probably said the opposite, dismissing the accusations against Kavanaugh while unconditionally condemning Cuomo. It would be ironic in the context of the thread for you to only object in one direction.

If sexual harassment is wrong, then it's wrong regardless of whether it's done by Democrats or Republicans.
That should go without saying, and does for normal people.

When called on it, I see people screaming "false equivalence," or they go into some convoluted, mealy-mouthed "explanation" which explains nothing at all.
There clearly can be false equivalences made. Just because someone calls something double standards doesn't automatically mean it is (even if you don't agree with the politics of the person being accused ;) ).

I don't think that all standards should apply to all humans equally, because if you look closer, the standard of being rational can end up harming irrational humans. I am one of them in a limited sense, so I am always critical of the normal people taking their own subjectivity as universal for all humans in all cases.

Ok, over-regulation of standards?

Folks maybe having too many standards for others?

Being kind of amoral, I don't have many standards/expectations.

A little decency, a little compassion that I expect from myself. I do think people should treat each other with a modicum of decency but don't necessarily expect it.

Yeah, but you e.g. problem don't work with non-normal people for a living. That is where the "fun" starts. :)
