Whether people agree or disagree with Richard, he has extensively studied many fields of education, including religion, science, and philosophy, and regularly reads some of the best publications. Long, interesting article. I haven't read anything of his before, but I got the sense that I was missing a good chunk of background that would provide a better basis for that article. There were a few things I wished he fleshed out, but I surmised from his references that his regular readers are familiar with the references. I plan on reading more of his links later.

The section on tennis sluts is very funny, and reminded me of many self-righteous (and generally unpaid) musicians I have met. Someone once said to me "a poor musician is a bad whore" which I found challenging as a young man, and it still gives me pause. Whether or not you agree with him, Richard Carrier states his case incredibly well.

Look, if you want to view sex as if you were eating a ham samwich, then fine. But some of us value the act, we believe it is sacred. In fact in my religion, sex is a sacred rite.

You were using the religion to justify as to why you hold this position when, essentially, what was written in the text is that you can only reach this position by the use of religion.

So, although you show a certain despite for the article, you actually agree with the reasoning and the formula used by it. What is happening is that your conclusion is different merely due to the value you assign to religion.

Ham is sacred to some of us.....bacon more so. Sex isn't.
Thus, they should be kept separate.
