Drugs and God!

Why did God put marijuana, magic mushrooms and poppy plants on the planet if they were not to be used?

It is my belief that some of these drugs - especially the first two, were intended for us to communicate with God - the Holy Power of Nature.
I agree. While I personally have not tried the aforementioned, I do find similar benefits from a glass or two of wine, especially when I’m more intensely focused on God prior to partaking of it. This could be simply due to the fact that it relaxes me, making me even more open to the spiritual dimension, who knows?

why else could we pick mushrooms from the early morning field and then walk around the forest communing with the Holy One?

We take Nature's products to bond with the joy.
marijuana and poppies are quite useful, medicinally. I'm of the opinion that any altered state of mind can be used spiritually.

Some things are beneficial to one person, but harmful to the next. I've found marijuana can enhance my focus and open me up to new thinking processes etc. These things can and likely have been used effectively and efficiently in the right hands.

I am in favor legalizing certain natural substances for usage.

Natural doesn't always mean healthy, though. Some natural things can kill you.

I don't really see the need to put a god into it. If a god wants me to connect with it by ingesting some plant and getting a bit loopy, that doesn't sound like a very close god, or a very interesting one. Plus, taking into account how things develop via natural selection, I don't see how any deities placed plants here for our use- that seems to a very human-centered view of the way the universe works.

Some of these natural substances have medicinal uses, and can also be used for recreation if it is legal in certain areas, but putting the divine into getting high seems to give it undue importance. Many mystical experiences that have been described sound similar to drug usage as far as I can tell, which does not surprise me as they both influence the brain and occur within it. But I don't see how one should conclude that any of this results in any sort of external connection to a deity or some other personality, entity, or force.

Used or used by humans?
Nature is not for humans alone, we are just a small part of it.
Perhaps some plants are necessary for some animals, as food or medicine?
Even for humans, drugs can also be used for strictly medical purposes, for instance opium (poppy) works as a pain killer.

I'm not knocking the use of aforementioned substances, but there are two verses in revelation where people did not repent of, among other things, sorceries, which in the Greek and only in these two verses is basically pharmacia from which we get our word for pharmacy, i.e. drugs. Now I do not believe it condemns all drugs, as they were used in the Bible for pain, but perhaps this refers to the mind altering type, as many believe this can open one up to demonic influence, bad behavior, and etc. In Christianity we are taught to meditate using our mind to think on say, a certain verse, and not to meditate by not using the mind or going into a trance which we feel also opens us up to the wrong spirit world. Whether some drugs are ok to help us relax or have a spiritual experience is a choice for each individual to make for themselves, not for others. I cannot share much on the subject as per the rules, so I will stop now. Except to say I do have a problem with a drug that makes people eat other peoples face off.

...And then there's "Pedro and Man..."

Hey at least half of his quote applies to these guys :D

Duuuuude.

One thing I think we lack here, in all seriousness, is the ability to talk about ritual use of substances in relation to our spirituality. I don't know how to change that or why it's in place in the first place.... but the dude abides....

Why? Teaching people to revolt is a bad thing for RF?

And smoking weed is legal in my country so the rules do not imply on me?

Well not on the social just stuff...
But purely on the Cannabis aspects I'm sure he'd quickly run into a problem.

RE: Rules for you (and everyone else too)-

The rules of the site, on this matter, is listed in the first post-

6. Illegal Activities
Discussions about your engagement in or encouragement for others to participate in any illegal activity is prohibited. This includes the use of illegal Drugs, infringement of intellectual property rights; including, music, software, or literature, photographs etc. It also covers Terrorism and all violent crime. And criminal activities. These Topics may be discussed and debated in a way that does not promote an illegal activity.

It doesn't matter what the laws are in your individual countries, that is the 'Law' here on RF and are part of the terms you agree to in being here or agreeing to face the consequences for it you do not partake of the rules.

I do not agree with this rule...... but it's not my site. Sorry.

Dude Abides.
