Drums, Dance, Trance

I've recently found myself dancing rhythmically (as one should), while listening to the band Wardruna, and slipping into trance-like states, of ecstacy.

Has anyone else used dancing and music similarly? What were your experiences? Did you use certain music, or play an instrument yourself? Any tips on maintaining trances?

Lucky.

No, but I am a seeker of spiritual experiences. I'll subscribe to this thread and maybe learn some.

If you want to maintain a state keep a constant steady beat and it's a good idea wear something over the eyes so you're not reacting to outside stimuli.

This is a good idea, I've been meaning to craft a blindfold to use. I'm also thinking of using a large stave to assist with balance, and motion. Like a contact staff of the Poi Fire Dancers, but longer.

How does one go about dancing for ecstasy? Is it sheer movement rythmically or is it specifically only possible with dancing? Is it meditation?

Perhaps such as the trance one can go into by playing rthymic stoner doom like Sleep and Om where they move along to the beat? Jamming as one might call it

That's workable I'm sure. Although I don't know the genre or groups you mention.

Chanting and mantras are similar. It's about sinking into a physiological and mental pattern.

I have no personal experience but gained an interest after seeing a video about human evolution. The series was from, I think, the 1990's.
The episode concerned cave art in South Africa. One scene showed animals but the artist had overlaid the work with numerous spots or small discs. This it seems has been puzzling researchers.

The presenters showed this to a bushman 'dancer' who immediately understood what he was looking at. He explained that when you use the traditional dance to enter a trance, you will see these same spots over whatever the scene is.

I was unable to find the cave art online but this website covers some of the subjects that were described.

I have managed to find the original, it is on Vimeo. It was a BBC series called Ape Man.
