Do we really need 8 or more words to explain what love is?

Given that 'love' is a four-letter word, my answer is yes. The word 'love' is used in so many different ways that being able to draw distinctions is helpful

Curious if anyone else catches it.
For myself, "love" is just a feeling like any other. No better, no worse. Just a feeling, not an answer to anything.

Didn't get many responses, so the thing I was taught that is common is that "love" is a desire to be close to whatever it is you feel love for.
Close to your spouse, close to God, Close to nature etc...

For myself, "love" is just a feeling like any other. No better, no worse. Just a feeling, not an answer to anything.

Yeah, pretty much everyone thinks that way.
I did for most of my life.
Then one day, a few years back I realized I had no idea what love really is.
It occurred to me that my ignorance prevented me from truly loving people.
My concept of love now is vastly different, and it’s definitely working in my life.
Relationships have blossomed. Life is so much better.
As you can tell, my view of reality is somewhere around 180 degrees different than that of christianity.
You probably wonder why I use the label “christian” for my religion.
Well, I surely don’t go to church, and cannot have a meeting of the minds with christians in general, and also believe that the christian religion is the cause of so much of the world’s problems.
All these things I mention above happened to me when I discovered “love”.
Christianity gives lip service to love, but has no grasp of what it is, imo.

Love, no matter which type, is selflessness….putting others’ interests ahead of your own. And doing it willingly.

it’s that simple.

Being selfish, is the opposite.

Only theists not conditioned to be loving by human choice would make a commentary about conditions not science
