Elon Musk, a genius? Really?

One must be poor indeed to think that $28k is vast wealth. it won't even buy a pickup truck these days.
I didn't say it was "vast wealth". I said it's not a thing non-wealthy people tend to just happen to have lying around to use as startup money for their 23 year old son's business.

The point is - even if we ignore the $28,000 - his family were wealthy. I think we have established that.

$28k isn't an unusual advantage.
Parents to send a kid to college spend far more.
That's middle class.

Do you have a car?
If so, does that make you wealthy?
Do you have a house?
Even wealthier.

Musk has made some nice accomplishments (SpaceX), but that doesn't mean he isn't a douche bag who has practiced poor judgement.

This back and forth is becoming pointless. We have both provided sources, both state that his family were wealthy. $28,000 is not a common amount of money to throw around, but regardless of whether it is or not we have both established his family were wealthy. Let it go.

For the many of Americans who are living paycheck to paycheck, working two jobs to stay out of debt, etc., they're not likely to have a loose $28k in their couch cushions.

No, based on multiple sources - provided by you and me - that said they were wealthy. I already said we can ignore the $28k.
You've provided no info about the family's net worth.
And there appears to be no disagreement about Musk
having gotten a $28k stake. This is hardly being handed
wealth. Obama was handed more. Biden was handed
more. Yet they never became billionaires.

Neither have you, and yet you have repeatedly claimed they're middle-class (despite one of your sources explicitly stating that they were wealthy).

I don't care about that. Stop bringing it up.

Are you really THIS unwilling to concede the simple point that his family were wealthy?

Nobody is claiming he was HANDED his billions. We're just saying his family were wealthy. Stop being so precious.

Is everyone on RF so poor that they could
never afford to buy a new economy car?
Or send a kid to college for a year?

You're the one insisting that his family was wealthy.
Whether they were or not, his stake was a measly $28k.
One needn't be even a millionaire to raise that.

Just responding to your posts.

I'll concede what you provide evidence for.
Stop being so destitute that you think $28k is
beyond the reach of all but wealthy folk.

How would I know? My point was only that these are tough times for many, and the ladders of economic mobility have been hoisted up some time ago. Also, all it takes is one serious injury or illness to cause financial ruin.

Are you capable of moving off that subject? I was brushing that off two pages ago.

Just responding to your posts.
No, you're not. I keep saying "they're wealthy" and you keep going back to the $28k as if that is somehow the ONE piece of information we have about his family's wealth. It's not. Stop fixating on it just because you think it's only way to avoid admitting that you were wrong about his family being wealthy.

I'll concede what you provide evidence for.
We've both provided sources, both said his family are wealthy - with citations.

Stop being so destitute that you think $28k is

You are the one fixated on the $28k. I brushed it off ages ago as largely irrelevant to the claim that his family are wealthy.

Why is it so important to you to believe his family weren't wealthy? Why is that a problem for you?

The discussion you joined is about Musk having an
advantage of being staked $28k, & that his parents
are wealthy. Tough times for some is irrelevant.
Besides, their difficulties haven't prevented the
middle class being highly populated.
And you're the one insisting they weren't, despite your own source saying they were.

Why is it so important to you to believe that Musk
came from wealth. Do you wan to believe that his
fortune was handed to him?
