Announcements of doom appear every now and then, the content depending on what the current perceived crisis is. It’s as if crises are surprising, as if the whole of human history hasn't been a lurch from one crisis to the next, over and over again.
But now we have concrete evidence that the whole ecosystem is at risk, and the predicted consequences are starting to manifest.

I don't think the general public has much of a grasp on ecology. We're pretty insular, and see mostly direct and immediate cause and effect.
We don't we seem to appreciate either the complexity or the gravity of the changes we're effecting.
