Empty Tomb / Empty Coffin

All this stuff about people "coming back to life" is irrelevant. People who were crucified did not come back to life: it was an execution and they were not taken off the cross until they were very definitely dead.

As for the empty tomb, that's all we have. Jesus was buried on Friday and by Sunday his body was gone. There could be any number of explanations. Paul was surely right to say that if Jesus was resurrected after being well and truly dead, that was something special. But there is no evidence that it happened. The only evidence would be if some-one actually saw Jesus walking around, alive and well. That is of course alleged to have happened, but not by the contemporary sources Mark and Paul: only by the other gospels, written a century after the event.
"There could be any number of explanations. "
Paul's explanation is wrong. He was not among the eye-witnesses.

1. Tasleem Rafiq

Tasleem Rafiq was 52 years old when she was given a second chance at life. The mother of four was rushed to the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading when she suffered a heart attack. Doctors tried to start her heart for 45 minutes before she was declared clinically dead.

After being informed of her demise, Rafiq’s family surrounded her dead body to say their final goodbyes. The family was warned that Rafiq’s body might make involuntary movements every now and then due to the adrenalin injected into her. And indeed, Rafiq made movements over the next two hours, giving her family hope that she might be alive. The doctor examined her and found a faint pulse, but informed the family that Rafiq “was clinging on to life” and that her brain suffered too much damage to survive.

But the family didn’t give up hope and continued to pray for a miracle. Shabana, Rafiq’s daughter, said, “Mum, if I have done something to upset you, tell me.” Much to her surprise, Rafiq responded with, “What have you done to upset me?” The following morning Rafiq was feeling alright. She was chatting and joking with her family “as if nothing had happened.”

Jesus' was delivered from the Cross in near-dead position and became conscious in the tomb Joseph of Arimathea . It was a great miracle as Jesus' had prophesied that he would not show the sign of Jonah to the Jews. And Jesus did show it to prove that he was a truthful prophet/messenger of G-d Yahweh Allah.

Jesus did not die on cross, says scholar
Jesus may not have died nailed to the cross because there is no evidence that the Romans crucified prisoners two thousand years ago, a scholar has claimed.

Those who say that Romans executed criminals on the Cross to make sure one dies, should read the above.

Whoever wrote that obviously hasn't done his research. The Romans crucified 6000 captured rebels from the end of the Third Servile War (fought in 73-71 BCE) and displayed their corpses along the Appian Way - a road between Rome and Capua, where Spartacus' slave revolt began. (source: http://penelope.uchicago.edu/Thayer/E/Roman/Texts/Appian/Civil_Wars/1*.html#120)

If you want an example of another people engaging in crucifixion earlier than this; Herodotus notes the Athenians crucified a Persian general called Artacytes round about 479 BCE i.e. " "They nailed him to a plank and hung him up ... this Artayctes who suffered death by crucifixion.""

(source Translation by Aubrey de Selincourt. The original, "σανίδα προσπασσαλεύσαντες, ἀνεκρέμασαν ... Τούτου δὲ τοῦ Ἀρταύκτεω τοῦ ἀνακρεμασθέντος ...", is translated by Henry Cary (Bohn's Classical Library: Herodotus Literally Translated. London, G. Bell and Sons 1917, pp. 591–592) as: "They nailed him to a plank and hoisted him aloft ... this Artayctes who was hoisted aloft".)

Ontario man declared dead in 1986 found alive in U.S. with second family

Ronald Stan had been missing since an early morning barn fire in 1977. He was living in Oklahoma under the name Jeff Walton.
ronald_stan.jpg.size.xxlarge.promo.jpg

Ronald Stan disappeared from his Ontario home in 1977. Police found him living in Oklahoma under the name Jeff Walton, where he eventually married Debra Proctor, both seen above.
Through his entire life, Jeff Walton Jr. had no idea his father was keeping a secret.

The 35-year-old learned from police earlier this month that his father, who he knew as Jeff Walton the first — a 69-year-old New Orleans Saints fan living in small-town Oklahoma — is not who his son thought him to be.

The senior Walton was born Ronald Stan, a Canadian living in the former Township of East Williams, Middlesex County until September 29, 1977, when he was reported missing after a mysterious early-morning barn fire.

Jesus found missing in the tomb didn't mean he had ascended to skies. Jesus missing in Jerusalem was spending good time in India, and of course he remarried there.

The proper name Jesus /ˈdʒiːzəs/ used in the English language originates from the Latin form of the Greek name Ἰησοῦς (Iēsous), a rendition of the Hebrew Yeshua (ישוע), also having the variants Joshua or Jeshua.

Jesus is remembered by the name Yus
Asaf in Kashmir India, and there are people there who are his off-spring.

Origin of Fantastical tales about Yus Asaf of Rozbal also known as Jesus of Kashmir

According to the fantastical stories the rod of Moses was also originally kept at the grave of Yus Asaf of Khanyar but was later moved to the shrine of Sheikh Zain-ud-din at Aishmuqam, that there is another grave the real grave underneath the present one kept at the location. And so on. The stories are fantastic. Recently some one even wrote a thriller around the stories titled 'Rozabal Line' inspired by the'Rose Line' in "Da Vinci Code".

LISTVERSE STAFF FEBRUARY 2, 2010

Being buried prematurely is one of the most terrifying of all fears. Edgar Allan Poe wrote about it and it has been the subject matter of many horror movies. Surprisingly real life cases of this terrible mistake are more common than one might think. Years ago when embalming wasn’t as common and because of inferior medical equipment to detect life there are numerous cases where people have had the terrifying experience of regaining consciousness in their own coffin. This list includes 10 such cases. Some sources for the list are from newspaper articles or journals and include the exact text which gives you a feeling of the time period. Another main source used for this list is a book written in 1905 called Premature Burial and How it May be Prevented which includes several actual cases of premature burials.

10 Virginia Macdonald 1851
buried.jpg

Virginia Macdonald lived with her father in New York City and became ill, died, and was buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn. After the burial, her mother declared her belief that the daughter was not dead when buried and persistently asserted her belief. The family tried in vain to assure the mother of the death of her daughter. Finally the mother insisted so strenuously that her daughter was buried alive the family consented to have the body taken up. To their horror, they discovered the body lying on the side, the hands badly bitten, and every indication of a premature burial.

Interesting Fact: When the Les Innocents cemetery in Paris, France was moved from the center of the city to the suburbs the number of skeletons found face down convinced many people and several doctors that premature burial was very common.

Jesus becoming alive from the seemingly near-dead is understandable that he never died on the Cross and delivered from it alive but in near-dead position.

9 Madam Blunden 1896

coffin.jpg

When Madam Blunden was thought to be dead, she was buried in the Blunden family vault at Holy Ghost Chapel in Basingstoke, England. The vault was situated beneath a boys’ school. The day after the funeral when the boys were playing they heard a noise from the vault below. After one of the boys ran and told his teacher about the noises the sexton was summoned. The vault and the coffin were opened just in time to witness her final breath. All possible means were used to resuscitate her but it was unsuccessful. In her agony she had torn frantically at her face and had bitten the nails off her fingers.

Interesting Fact: A large number of designs for safety coffins were patented during the 18th and 19th centuries. Safety coffin were fitted with a mechanism to allow the occupant to signal that he or she has been buried alive. You can see one of the variations here.

So, empty tomb or coffin does not signify that the person is dead for sure, there could be weird exceptions or a sign fulfilled in case of Jesus whose tomb was found empty.

8 New York Times article,1886

“WOODSTOCK, Ontario, Jan. 18- Recently a girl named Collins died here, as it was supposed, very suddenly. A day or two ago the body was exhumed, prior to its removal to another burial place, when the discovery was made that the girl had been buried alive. Her shroud was torn into shreds, her knees were drawn up to her chin, one of her arms was twisted under her head, and her features bore evidence of dreadful torture.”

Interesting Fact: In the 19th century, Dr. Timothy Clark Smith of Vermont was so concerned about the possibility of being buried alive that he arranged to be buried in a special crypt that included a breathing tube and a glass window in his grave marker that would permit him to peer out to the living world six feet above. You can see his grave here.

7 Daily Telegraph article,1889

“GRENOBLE, Jan. 18- A gendarme was buried alive the other day in a village near Grenoble. The man had become intoxicated on potato brandy, and fell into a profound sleep. After twenty hours passed in slumber, his friends considered him to be dead, particularly as his body assumed the usual rigidity of a corpse. When the sexton, however, was lowering the remains of the ill-fated gendarme into the grave, he heard moans and knocks proceeding from the interior of the ‘four-boards.’ He immediately bored holes in the sides of the coffin, to let in air, and then knocked off the lid. The gendarme had, however, ceased to live, having horribly mutilated his head in his frantic but futile efforts to burst his coffin open.

Interesting Fact: The Fear of being buried alive is called taphephobia. The word “taphephobia” comes from the Greek “taphos” meaning “grave” + “phobia” from the Greek “phobos” meaning “fear” = literally, fear of the grave, or fear of being put in the grave while still alive.

istverse.com/2010/02/02/10-horrifying-premature-burials/

Jesus was a case like this in the sense that people thought that he was dead while he was alive, when he got conscious he came out of the tomb, that is the reason the tomb was empty, he secretly met his friends and then migrated from Judea. Right? Please correct me if I am wrong.

Jesus Christ was tortured to death, stabbed with a spear in his side, and his death was confirmed by his executioners and those who laid him in a tomb. There is no reasonable doubt that Jesus died. His resurrection was witnessed to by hundreds of people. Although many professed "Christians" claim that Jesus is God, the Bible does not teach that, IMO. Rather, as 1 John 5:5 states; "Jesus is the Son of God."

Doubtful as per NT Gospels as Matthew, Marks and Luke don't mention that John was even there at the Crucifixion to see that "Jesus' side" was pierced as an eye-witness. The count is three against one. Right? Please

Not at all. Each gospel writer included in his account the events he wanted to share with those for whom he wrote. All the gospels include material not mentioned in the others. Taken together, I believe they present a harmonious and inspired history of Jesus life, ministry, death, and resurrection.

"All the gospels include material not mentioned in the others."
That is enough proof that none of them was an eye-witness of the event of Crucifixion, had they all been the eye-witness, there would have been no difference in their narrations.

Technically ... no. Unfortunately, studies show that eye witnesses are horrible regarding reliability. I'm reading a book from Ehrman about memories and how it relates to Jesus' story, and he notes that there was once an experiment in a college classroom where there was a staged shooting. The most accurate of the recollections from eye witnesses was only 26% accurate. That's abysmal.

They were not even eye-witnesses, so they made all sorts of errors and blunders.
