End of Democracy

-- “Welcome to the end of democracy. We are here to overthrow it completely,” Posobiec said as the event began.

“We didn’t get all the way there on January 6, but we will endeavor to get rid of it and replace it with this, right here,” he said, gesturing to the crowd and holding up his fist.

As he spoke, Bannon laughed and said, “Amen!” --

Is anyone else here excited about the "end of democracy"?
While this guy is obviously a fringe character, CPAC did choose him as a speaker at this conference. It is interesting to see how far the boundaries of acceptable speech, at a supposedly respectable political conference, have been pushed now.

I am about to start to read "Defying Hitler", a memoir written during the war by a German who escaped to Britain, about his experience of the rise to power of nazism. It's a book I thought to read now, just in case, to get my antennae tuned to detect the signals, as it were.

I really feel we all need to be aware of what may be happening.

It seems to me that for a lot of Americans (you know which ones I'm talking about) democracy can be and should be ditched because it does not and cannot deliver what they passionately desire, which in essence is a nationalist Christian theocracy.

For such people, theocracy trumps democracy. See what I did there?
