Erdogan wants to hold elections early before economy crashes

Oh, the EU wanted Turkey to join the EU, talks had taken place.
BUT not at any cost and Turkey had to meet certain criteria, IIRC things like Human Rights and Freedom of Press. Turkey was a long way from meeting those criteria and is a lot further away now, at the time of the Referendum they were heading in the wrong direction but the Brexit Press never said that and used it as another scare tactic.
I am not familiar with said campaign, but if they said Turkey would join without filling criteria they were wrong.

Any money Turkey got I thought was to do with refugees.
EU allocations for IPA 2014-2020: €4,453.9 million (not including the allocation for Cross-border Cooperation)
Turkey - financial assistance under IPA II - European Neighbourhood Policy And Enlargement Negotiations - European Commission

They still receive money from EU to fulfill the criteria to join EU. Though some in EU are wondering if the money is being spent for that purpose, what with Turkey calling Merkel same as the Nazis.

Can we have that in plain text? I don' feel like studying the matter for days to understand what you're referring to. If you already know say so.

~4.5B€ pre-acession financial assistance during 2014-2020 so they can progress in areas they need to for purpose of joining EU. Others are also going through same process, Kosovo, Montenegro, Serbia, Bosnia...

The page I linked has details of annual budgets and where they are supposed to go, supporting their civil society, agriculture, human rights, education in Erasmus programme. They don't give out where the money comes from, but it's funded by EU member states of course.

What he means, I think, is that Turkey felt entitled to join the EU, the EU was wary and issues several key demands and Erdogan essentially gave them the middle finger in return and carried on with his "reforms" pushing the possibility of Turkey joining the EU in the "fat chance" department.

NATO is more problematic. If booted out of NATO, Erdogan would instantly get courted by Russia to join their power block. It's problematic enough with Syria being a Russian ally, let alone having such a key geographical area under Russian influence too. So, in that area, we need Turkey and unfortunately Erdogan knows it.

This could be the reason why the Turks are courting the russians, which was surprising to me considering the history of animosity and warfare between them.
