I had my first "how do americans deal with a sauna" experience last week.
Didn't know that they had none in the us.

Why? Are German sauna's different from dutch ones? 
My wife and I have been to the Caracalla in Baden-Baden and the spa in Scheveningen. Both were very nice, but the former was clearly superior.
We hope to get back to the Friedrichsbad some time when we can go together.

I do not know how different they are from Dutch sauna's, but the biggest difference between German saunas and American saunas is the in Germany the saunas are co-ed and the German people tend to use them naked, I mean no towel other than to sit on.Why? Are German sauna's different from dutch ones?
Of course, I was in Frankfort, Germany at the time.

In germany saunas are for both genders (and kids) and people use them naked.
I had a collegue who stayed here for a week and went with me.
She was very courageous in the face of such dangers as naked, (wrinkled) skin all around.
Obviously she had no clue about german saunas and I had not told her (she agreed so fast, i assumed she knew). Her behaviour was thus rather "strange" for me. It took me some minutes to understand the problem

When i was in the usa (only for three days i must say) i haven't seen any sauna except for one. The biggest difference for me (leaving the cloth issue aside) was the temperature and the ambience. It was not very hot nor really relaxing A nice lady told me the temperature was so low (i guess around 60-70 degrees centigrade) because of legal issues. I still don't know if that was an excuse or truth.
