That's quite depressing and disturbing to me.

If it's an consolation, the validity of the comparison is called into question. The exact chronological order is unsure because he didn't date his pictures. Also, in his later years, he still drew totally regular (anthropomorphic) cats besides the abstract pattern cats.

Also, schizophrenia is questionable because he didn't exhibit deterioration of his drawing skills.
