So, giving someone who is putting out negative energy, positive energy will make them immediately put out positive energy? My experience tells me otherwise.

I know that's not what you mean, but that is what I'd hope for, and what I meant in my responses.
Giving sincere, warm feelings to someone feeling "bad" will always immediately make them feel better, yes.

True, but giving sincere, warm feelings to someone feeling angry for no reason won't necessarily make them feel better.

If that's what you believe. But in terming it "necessarily" you've given it to karma to run its own course, rather than yours.

Plus, negative energy can be offset by positive energy.

that is true. i believe we should see angry, arrogant..etc. people as people in trouble. that sentence you wrote in your first reply is great.(it was about smiling.....people who does not have one to give...) that is very wise. however i could not manage to write whole sentence , i've got its essence within.

I completely agree. This is why I'm checking out this forum instead of hanging out where I was, which is Craig's list.

I take it lots of people are rude in here too, huh? Well, I will always listen to what you have to say and not be mean (until you insult me that is. :p)

There actually are not too many rude people here. Just a few. A majority of the members are very nice. :D

That reminds me of this saying by...I think, Dale Carnegie..."No one needs a smile more than someone who doesn't have one to give." :)

I think when we send negative energy to such people they become more negative. If we send positive energy, it helps them to become better. Sometimes we look at people as grumpy but we don't know what troubles they have to deal with - we don't know if anything or anyone has hurt them and made them this way.

We don't lose anything by giving a smile. A smile can go a long way.

A smile is contagious
It's passed from me to you
As soon as one is witnessed,
It's so hard not to do.
To be party to a smile
Is privilege indeed
A smile can make things better
It's sometimes all you need
So valuable a smile
You will find it is true
That when you smile at everyone
Your smile comes back to you!

"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice..... well you won't fool me again"
