Actually, if you were UU, you could be a Taoist, a Pagan, and a Discordianianister...
Really? Awesome! :D I really wish there was a UU church I could feasibly go to regularly... the closest one is a half hour away, and with gas like it is now...

What is Discordianism and what attracts you to that particular belief?
I've always had a love for 'good' chaos; ruffling feathers without being an arse about it, verbally thumping self-righteous or arrogant people on the nose, things like that. It's just something I'm really attracted to, thought RF has calmed me down a little... I used to be a lot more wild and abrasive. ;)

[font=&quot]Pretend for a second that your religion or belief system didn't exist and that it never existed. From the discussions you've had on the forums which beliefs would you be interested in possibly joining or pursuing further? Why would you pick those beliefs?

My first choice within Christianity would be Catholicism. My first choice outside of Christianity would be the Baha'i Faith. I don't have time to explain why right now. Maybe I'll come back later and edit my post.

Panentheism
My first, uneducated, thought was "I thought you didn't like pantheism."

Thanks so much for mentioning this so that I could investigate it! I must admit, I was drawn to pantheism for awhile, but panentheism seems much more in tune with my personal beliefs, from what I've been able to find about the topic. Hmm... I might wind up changing my usually- stated religion based on a hypothetical question!

That pleases me very much. :)

I love panentheism! :woohoo: I'm a panentheist!

But it doesn't strike me as so much a religion as a world view. There are Christian panentheists, Jewish panentheists, Pagan panentheists, Sufis, Hindus...

Absolutely true ... unless, of course, pantheism is the religion, and the rest is the myth and narrative necessary to render it accessible.

Religion, do something spiritual instead, like chilling to the vibe as the Sun sets over the White Isle, or get your board out, and hit the surf. you don't need no god for spirtuality, just a communion with what's cool in the world.

Actually, maybe I'd go for Bokononism.
"All of the true things that I am about to tell you are shameless lies." That's a great beginning for a religion.

I'd go with Hinduism. Hinduism and Heathenism both developed from essentially the same culture and worldview, share similar mythologies and deities, values and beliefs. I actually looked into Hinduism, but decided that it was pretty much an cultural religion, like heathenism; and as my ancestors were Anglo-Saxon/Germanic, Heathenism just seems an easier fit. I must say though, that I have always been impressed with Mormons and while I don't know if I could ever really buy into the dogmas, they do share my values and passions and I'd love to worship the divine with people like that. So, I'll go with either Hinduism or Mormonism.

Panethism. He was replying to Lilithu's statement about it seeming to be more of a world view than a religion unto itself, and, in doing so, provided me with the knowledge that what I was thinking of- a panethiestic world view with a pagan approach- was possible.

Thus ensuing much happy-dancing!

Pretentious grammar aside, you might consider speaking for yourself rather than informing others about what they do and do not need.

Rather than being a follower/leader of my current faith (Which could be described as a crazy bastardization of Islam with all sorts of other traditions thrown in.) I would choose a new made up one, perhaps following a friend of mine (whos beliefs are like a crazy bastardization of a crazy bastardization of Islam.)

I'll quibble with you about definitions of religion, but I completely agree with your meaning.

Except that I'm a panENtheist, not a pantheist, and you've confused me by switching words between posts. From our previous interactions, I would have guessed that you were more of a pantheist than a panentheist (if a theist at all). But then again, you never cease to surprise me. :p

I had entended "panENtheist" but got sloppy ...

The post asks that I pick a new religion. Panentheism embraces emergence and sports a rather impressive Pantheon.

don't be a sikH! you have to wear a turban, and these really weird underwear, and worship swords and stuff. And the last book of the guru's you have to treat it like a real person. "Sir randhir-singh, i'm putting the guru to bed!". hhhhh.
That was disgusting.
