"Everything happens for a reason."

I guess it really depends on what angle you want to come from. Personally I will go with Yes it does. Mainly b/c why not. If I'm on a sales call and for some reason I didn't get the case then it happend, for what reason? I'm not sure but my father always tells me it will may you stronger in the end and you will appreciate what you do get.

I think the bottom line is "life isn't fair" and that is reason enough.

I believe there is something inside of us that leads us to where we need to learn lessons. Maybe it's your subconcious mind, maybe it's the Divine.

I believe everything happens for a reason - both the good and the bad. I have had things happen in my life, where it would be easy to cry foul, and say "Why me?". But honestly, those things have made me a much stronger person - everything is a learning experience. It is funny sometimes to look back on events in my life, and to see what has lead me to the place I currently am. :p

Things definitely happen for a reason. Ever had anyone ask you "If you could change one thing in yuor life ,what would it be?".

My answer is absolutely nothing.

Everything that has transpired in your life has made you who you are today and determined your current situation in life. If I were to change anything I might not have met my wife and would not have my children.Bad experiences can teach us to appreciate when we've got it good.:D

It's like that comment " Some day you'll look back at this and laugh.", it's a good thing to keep in mind when all about you is falling apart. It's kept me going many times.

This too shall pass.

do you talk to god?
No, I talk to Goddess, and many other spirits. Ive talked with my spirit advisor alot latly.

I dont believe everything happens for a reason. If bump my knee on my desk and feel a bit of discomfort, that was just my own fault for not paying attention. But when something more serious and life changing occurs, such as when I tore my left ACL, that is your Karma issues comming into effect your life, and is for a reason.

I couldn't agree more, Majikthise, which brings us back to -this is so long ago, I think it might have been TVOR who said he liked this artist - Edith piaff's 'Je ne regrette rien'-i think that is such a healthy attitude.

My mother was an incredibly wise woman; one of her sayings was nothing will ever be as good or as bad as you think, which, when you think about is is also often true.:)

The notion that everything happens for a reason is a comforting one. But I think it is largely illusionary.

Yes, I believe everything happens for a reason. I don't believe in coincidence. When I look back over my life, I remember doing some pretty stupid things, but I don't regret any of it because I learned something from all of them and they shaped who I am today.

We've all heard that saying before. Do you believe it's true? Why or why not?
I don't think anything is by chance in life. I feel our paths are charted the day we are concieved....and we chosse from those paths as we go through life...sometimes we screw up but I think most mistakes come with great lessons to be learned. The Bible says even the hairs on our heads are numbered...do you realize how many times that count has to change over the course of ones life??? Therefore if this is to believed to be true then God sets our course and only He knows the outcome prior whether we are gonna learn a lesson or be rewarded. Either way He loves us and I imagine He gets amused with our antics as we muster through life. I've been to many busy parking lots where there seems to be no parking and I just know God will provide and almost always I don't have to walk far to the door of the store...if God can handle simplistic things such as parking spots then who am I to say He can't have it all personally under control?!:)

"Everything happens for a reason." ???

I don't know ? In the phyical world , everything is basically controled by cause and effect , so if one looks closely enough , there is reason somewhere .... But on a larger scale , each of this " cause of effects " may have very little to do with one another . They are little more then minor vibrations in the whole . As such , each could be considered a chaotic disturbance in the solidity of the whole .

For excample , I drive my car into yours at an intersection . The cause ? I wasn't paying attention , or perhaps you ran a light ? But what difference does it actually make ? The " cause " is basically meaningless in the " big picture ". Other then perhaps learning not to make the same mistake again , what real effect did it have on the world ?

That is assuming that it ends there . Lets say that a third party gets upset because they now see that intersection as a dangerous place . So they decide to talk to their local potical repersentive , but find that he/she is in another city . So they decide to drive to that city , in a rain storm , loss control of their car resulting in a head-on with another . A young passenger in the other car dies .

So , what is the reason for that person's death ? And why do I feel that I have just fellen into the world of the Hitchhiker's Guide of the universe ... or is that the Rocky horror Picture Show ??? :)

I really did start off to try and answer this question . But I really don't know .

Reminds me of the sci fi story about people who go back in time and are warned to stay on the pay lest they inadvertently change history. One of the group steps off and the guide is freaking so they head back to their own time. When they get back, they find everything changed....and then find the butterfly squished on the bottom of the guy's boot.

Taking your car accident example....perhaps you walked away from this with a bit more awareness of other drivers...and perhaps this will, in the future, cause you to brake instead of hitting the gas in another situation thus saving your life. We'll never know.

Our experiences shape us and make us who we are. Remove one experience and your life will have a subtle shift....one you'll never know or recognize because we can't see all of the possible realities.

Buddhism explains this as cause and effect. Everything is dependent on everything else (dependent origination), and has no independent, non-changing existence. Is there dark without light, or light without dark? Is there life without death, or death without life? Is there matter without energy, or energy without matter? Is there life without spirit, or spirit without life?

perhaps you are right; it is almost like those who tailor their horoscopes to fit what happened in their day; but, as you say, it is a comforting thought.:)

Yes, everthing happens for a reason. In the physical world, science calls it 'cause and effect'. . . For every action there is a reaction.

Coincidence has been misunderstood to be something of an accident. A 'mere coincidence'. This is not so. They are meaningful coincidences. When you realize that synchronized events are part of a plan and not an accident, you can start watching the plan unfold.

When you are not following your destiny, you are not synchronized with the universe. And chaos will happen to shake things up and get you back on track. You can have a successful career, a wonderful family, everything your heart desires, but still find things going wrong in your life because you are not in synch. Your job will fall apart, and maybe your marriage, as well.

Everything you do comes back to you. Sometimes this happens right away, sometimes it takes many lifetimes to return. But everything that happens to you, happens for a reason. Either to balance Karma, or to strengthen your spirit. We are told that which does not kill us only makes us stronger. This time on earth is a learning experience, a growing experience. None of this can occur without experience. A person can read about poverty, but until they experience it firsthand, they will never truly understand what poverty is.

As a practical exercise it wouldn't inconvenience any of us to examine at least a few reasons.
