We've all heard that saying before. Do you believe it's true? Why or why not?

Thanks for bringing the thread on topic again.Jensa said:Things can happen for a reason without the mystical, mysterious higher-power connonations.
No, I talk to Goddess, and many other spirits. Ive talked with my spirit advisor alot latly.do you talk to god?
I couldn't agree more, Majikthise, which brings us back to -this is so long ago, I think it might have been TVOR who said he liked this artist - Edith piaff's 'Je ne regrette rien'-i think that is such a healthy attitude.Majikthise said:Things definitely happen for a reason. Ever had anyone ask you "If you could change one thing in yuor life ,what would it be?".
My answer is absolutely nothing.
Everything that has transpired in your life has made you who you are today and determined your current situation in life. If I were to change anything I might not have met my wife and would not have my children.Bad experiences can teach us to appreciate when we've got it good.
It's like that comment " Some day you'll look back at this and laugh.", it's a good thing to keep in mind when all about you is falling apart. It's kept me going many times.
This too shall pass.
I don't think anything is by chance in life. I feel our paths are charted the day we are concieved....and we chosse from those paths as we go through life...sometimes we screw up but I think most mistakes come with great lessons to be learned. The Bible says even the hairs on our heads are numbered...do you realize how many times that count has to change over the course of ones life??? Therefore if this is to believed to be true then God sets our course and only He knows the outcome prior whether we are gonna learn a lesson or be rewarded. Either way He loves us and I imagine He gets amused with our antics as we muster through life. I've been to many busy parking lots where there seems to be no parking and I just know God will provide and almost always I don't have to walk far to the door of the store...if God can handle simplistic things such as parking spots then who am I to say He can't have it all personally under control?!Maize said:We've all heard that saying before. Reminds me of the sci fi story about people who go back in time and are warned to stay on the pay lest they inadvertently change history. One of the group steps off and the guide is freaking so they head back to their own time. When they get back, they find everything changed....and then find the butterfly squished on the bottom of the guy's boot.kreeden said:For excample , I drive my car into yours at an intersection . The cause ? I wasn't paying attention , or perhaps you ran a light ? But what difference does it actually make ? The " cause " is basically meaningless in the " big picture ". Other then perhaps learning not to make the same mistake again , what real effect did it have on the world ?
perhaps you are right; it is almost like those who tailor their horoscopes to fit what happened in their day; but, as you say, it is a comforting thought.Sunstone said:The notion that everything happens for a reason is a comforting one. But I think it is largely illusionary.
As a practical exercise it wouldn't inconvenience any of us to examine at least a few reasons.Sunstone said:The notion that everything happens for a reason is a comforting one. But I think it is largely illusionary.
