Everything I know is a lie...

... or I'm just being dramatic ;)

I took one of those silly online quizzes, "What Religion Are You?" And my result was Unitarian Universalist. Now, I don't know anything about UU other then what the name implies but I think that I'll approach these test results with the same seriousness I approach the "What Lord of the Rings character are you?" (Pippin) Or the "What breed of Dog are you" (Corgi).

Anyone else get a result from the "What religion are you quiz" other than Hindu?

I almost always get Unitarian Universalism as well. It just means that you believe that most (if not all) religions in the world have value and that you don't think one is superior to the other.

This is not too surprising given the vastness of Hinduism, and some sect's willingness to lean towards universalism. But as you say, I can't really see why you should take a lot of stock in that sort of thing, unless it says 100% Islam, and 10% Hindu or some other drastically different view that you thought you were. Then maybe you should look in a mirror. I get Hindu when I do them, not that it matters.

I went and did another one, and analysed the questions as I went along. Whoever wrote it has, at best, an encyclopedia western biased knowledge of Hinduism. I got Jain, but I had to put 'not applicable' or other on 11 of the 20 questions.

Yeah, the test I took had many questions that just left out a lot of key options from Hinduism (Or other Eastern religions for that matter), so had to choose "Non-applicable or Not Important". Wording which I love - "Not important? Of course it is!" :)

My test didn't give me percentage, but either way it doesn't bother me. I just think quizzes like this are funny. I still remember one from when I was a teenager, "What is your Elven Name?" Which just leads to the realization that these quizzes are made by someone somewhere, and what is that person like? :D

Me too.

Probably for that reason. I believe and practice what I do because it makes sense and is right for me, not necessarily for anyone else. That's the essence of the Universalism part, I think.

I was about to say any Hindus are Unitarian. So I wouldn't freak. But yeah those tests probably are some American know nothing's getting their answers from wikipedia

Look at that I got Neo Pagan. That's pretty close. The question that got me was what is God I was stuck with either many personal deities which are facets of the one all God, OR God is the ultimate reality or soul
.. but I believe both. Those tests are so biased towards advaitin Hindus. If your dvaitin well good luck.

I definitely think Hinduism is the best religion ... for me. If it wasn't then I'd switch. I would strongly encourage any Hindu who thinks some other religion is better than theirs to switch, or at least go take a good look. :)

This one ... http://www.quizrocket.com/religion-test was quite funny in its ridiculous oversimplification of 'Hindu'.

Oh, wow.

I don't even...wow. Here's the actual wording for the "Hindu Result"

Your Result

Hindu

You believe in reincarnation and have a whole bunch of Gods that are really the same God, but different Gods, but still the same. You are focused on your karma and the more good karma you achieve the less likely you are to be reincarnated as an animal. Your goal is to escape the endless cycle of rebirths and find Nirvana. You like Yoga too.

Did a 9 year old code this test?

lol

lol ... It's sad. I went to one more, and it was even worse ... funnier. Obviously written by a very fundamental Christian, it had two very common themes, Satan, and Jesus. I answered it and got 'Undecided, you're obviously lost.' or some such drivel. At least now when you're really bored with RF, but still want something to do here, you can go to an on-line religion quiz for humour. :)

Hahahaha. It's a rigged survey. EVERYONE gets UU highly placed on their results.
In the past, I have simply deleted the reference to UU as if it had never shown up.

There was that one time that I got 100% Satanist... followed by something like UU 84% LOL

Very interesting. Are you suggesting its a proseltysing ploy, cause I can see some doing that, but it seems unbecoming of UU, or so I've been told. :)

Actually, no that is not what this is. The point is that UU accepts virtully any variety of belief system under their umbrella and so virtually all answers will hit the mark for them. The only criteria is that you have to accept their core principles - that's pretty well it.

Firstly, wow this quiz was pretty bad. The lack of variety in the answers was sad.

That being said, I scored ''Hindu'' with this one. :D
