If there isn't a clear pecking order, its an evil idea to go ahead and establish one that you can control. One common evil practice is to subcontract most of the employment part of your business to a second party, but then have them turn around and subcontract many of their employees to a temp agency. That way there are three tiers of employment and three tiers of managers analogous to the three great archetypes: Heaven, Earth and some place deep underground where no light ever shines.
