Evolution couldn't be true

Hello folks,

I would like to present myself as a person who have studied the idea of evolution from its scientific aspect to the reasoning aspect.

Evolution to the laymen is an idea that confers the relationship between the advancement of human specie to the more primitive "forefathers". If this was to be true that humans have evolved to a level that totally exceeds other species then we have to study the situation real close.
A specific example I would like to point out is the essential vitamins that humans have to take. Vitamin C for example have to be procured from food since our bodies cannot synthesize such material. On the other hand, rats (more primitive specie), Have the ability to synthesize vitamin C.

I think its about time we have to distinguish between the idea between adaptation (true) and evolution (false).

Uh. What?

The reason why we can't synthesize vitamin C is because of the GULOP that we share with the other Haplorrhini and was caused by an ERV to one of our shared ancestors. It actually proves common descent and evolution.

I'm not sure what you mean with adaptation v evolution. Adaptation in Anthropology is something different than genetic change (mutation etc).

I've studied evolution from its scientific aspect as well, which includes taking a few classes at the local college. One of the classes included lab work.

Evolution says nothing about "advanced," "primitive," or any other such notions. While we can't synthesize vitamin C, we do get small amounts of D from the sun.
Evolution also doesn't have any dates, goals, or any other such notions. It just happens as it happens the way it happens.

No offence, but clearly you have not studied evolution. Evolution is just change over time, we do not 'exceed' other species, we are just different to them.

So what if rats can synthesise vitamin C? What is your point?

You don't seem to be quite sophisticated. Rats are able to synthesize a crucial Vitamin(vital to humans) that without it we can die. Now on the other hand, where athiests like you claim that humans have evolved in to an advanced specie cannot compete with a simple rat (i work in a rat laboratory).

Humans, like a few other animals, lost the ability to make vitamin c. This didn't matter much because their standard diet included lots of fruits and vegetables rich in the nutrient. Our ancestors could absorb it from their food. That's why we didn't go extinct.

Evolution is not a linear track from simple to sophisticated. It's just whatever happens to work out best.

More of a design issue is how we intake air, food, and water through the same pipe. Revoltingest could design that system alot better. Even I could.

Exactly! We have construed the difference between Adaptation and Evolution. Adaptation for example is when you lift weights or live on a mountain, you will be able to grow stronger muscles and build. Evolution on the other hand is a specie completely becoming into another specie.

There is no benefit for humans to lose a crucial skill! Rats-on the other hand- are able to synthesize vitamin C and rats are very close on the "lineage" tree of evolution.

Yeah, but can rats do this.

Well, can they?

I rest my case.

Didn't the guy just tell you he doesn't believe evolution is about "exceeding other species" to become an advanced type species?

Why would humans' survival depend on competing with a simple rat anyway?

No, I don't think that's the solution.

The solution is to educate lay people about what evolution is: that is has nothing to do with any advancement from "primitive" to "advanced", nor is it in any way a linear path with a set "goal." There's no such thing as a "next stage in human evolution", or such nonsensical pseudoscience like that.

Biological evolution via natural selection (the complete term for the phenomenon) is a reactive force. Adaptation is an aspect of that, but is insufficient as an all-encompassing term.

Right. Kind'a. By the way, those examples are presented in biological anthropology, amongst other ones, to show the difference between evolution and adaptation, so I'm not sure what you're getting at.

Evolution is really about change over time, not just speciation. Speciation is only one thing in evolutionary theory.

So what's your problem with the GULOP again? That's not an adaptation but a mutation through infection, as you probably know. And we share exactly the same with chimps. Which proves that we share ancestry since the only way to get exactly the same is to share genetic ancestors.

Spare me the insults. Reading this thread, pretty much every person is trying to explain the exact same thing to you - evolution is change over time, not a value judgement. Octopi have better eyes than humans, so do eagles, hawks and squid. Dolphins have ultra sound, sharks can see electricity - so what? How is any of this a problem for atheism or evolution? Nothing in the theory of evolution suggests that humans are superior to other species - that is a Christian belief mate, nothing to do with evolution.

It's true that's no benefit to lose a genetic code like that, but there's a co-evolution process in play.

When our ancestors had access to c-vit rich food, a mutation that ruined the GULO wouldn't have any affect on survival. It's the same thing with all other essential micro/macro-nutrients. We are dependent on other lifeforms producing or breaking down certain foods that we can't live without. For instance, we need some bacteria in our gut.

No. Evolution is just change over time. Adaptation within a species is evolution, a species diverging into two or more new species is also evolution. Both of which events are observable and have been proven by observation.

Evolution is a specie becoming into another specie. A cow becoming a whale. Adaptation is your avg heart rate reducing from 80 to 65 after 3 months of physical conditioning.
