Brains are more energy expensive than muscles. Increasing muscle mass is less expensive than increasing brain size. Witness Tyrannosaurus: Small brains, big muscles, quite successful in their day.

Not only are brains highly energetically expensive, but brain size is not a direct measure of intelligence or behavioral complexity.
An animal is only as smart as it needs to be, a sponge doesn't need a brain.

Because evolution is a blind and meaningless process, it makes no sense to say it was lucky.
Except for the existence of the trillium.....that looks pretty lucky to me.

Saw this filmed up close on one of those science documentaries.
On a large scale in human form.....
it might look like the Borg in Star Trek fame.

Evolution is a natural course. How does a natural course get lucky?
Humans got lucky, we don't deserve to own this world, taking up so much space, polluting our nature, taking other animals from their families, etc.
Yet, were no more better than the other species of animals.

I agree. It depends on your criteria for success.
If you look at energy expenditure over distance travelled, teleosts (bony fish) leave us for dead when it comes to efficiency.
It is incredibly arrogant for us to think we are the most successful organisms on the planet.
Humans are the best at being humans.
Apes are the best at being apes.
Bacteria are the best at being bacteria ect.
