The fact part is that species evolved over millions of years, evidently. The theory part is what made them evolve, with natural selection being one theory, even intelligent design being another.

It is amazing how first in the old days the creationists said that evolution did not occur, then they latched onto the idea that micro evolution was ok but speciation has never been observed. Now that we have observed actual speciation the creationists are onto the idea that the evolution of the poorly defined "kind" can not be claimed because no one has ever seen it happen. What garbage. There are many things in science that are too fast, too slow, too large or too small to be directly observed, that does not either put such phenomena outside of the realm of science nor does it provide evidence that they do not exist.

What he's saying is that we can't see speciation from beginning to end in real-time because we don't live long enough as humans, but he also says: "This is easiest to do in microbes like bacteria, which can divide as often as once every twenty minutes, allowing us to observe evolutionary change over thousands of generations in real time. And this is genuine evolutionary change, demonstrating all three requirements of evolution via selection: variation, heritability, and the differential survival and reproduction of variants."

Which contradicts your claim that he says that evolution is not observable. He only says it's not possible for humans in a human life time to watch a high life form to speciate. There's a difference.

What I said is we know species changed and evidently developed to more advanced species over time, what we do not know, and is still theory(the theory of evolution) is why and how those species evolved, mutations occurred it would seem, what we do not know is how or why those mutations occurred, as I said it could have been partly natural selection, all natural selection, partly intelligent design, all intelligent design, partly alien intervention etc etc That part is theory, also when we say the earth is 4.5 billion years old, the exactness of that date is a theory, we have a theory that the decay of this isoptype or that has never changed in rate, hence ourt dating system, but that is still a thoery, not an observable fact.
