I tell you, it is tiresome to see people insisting that evolution is "only a theory", "not proven", etc.

Saying that it is so will not make it so, folks.

You're new here, slowbreath, so you probably don't realise that "only a theory" comes up so regularly on every thread dealing with evolution that it elicits facepalms.

When we're talking about scientific theories we're not using the word in the colloquial sense of conjecture or speculation. In science a theory is a whole different thing. Germs causing disease, gravity and the Earth revolving around the sun are theories, but few would contend they were mere speculation.

It is a theory though...but a theory has evidence to support it...I dont understand what the big deal is about it being a theory.

Gravity is also a theory and it has as much proof as evolution.

should some one start a thread discussing the possibility that gravity doesn't exist?

If you want to get Cartesian about it you'd need to be skeptical of pretty much everything, dallas.

No, but our theory of gravity could be wrong. Same as evolution.

but it is not. we know more about evolution then gravity.

if you drop a ball does it not fall.? yes

if you change enviroment does a species not evolve or die out? yes

move along

Yes those are true. The more complex areas are where we can be wrong. Evolution is not a complete theory, it is missing in some areas but that doesnt make it false. Any new information we get in the futur could change the theory at any time. Same with gravity, science evolves with the knowledge it gains.

well, I for one don't believe in gravity and here are my reasons.
its onley a theory
there is no proof for it
satelites don't fall to the earth
the sun, the stars and the moon don't fall to the earth.
you may be able to show that a rock falls to the earth (micro gravity) but you can't prove that every mass is atracted to every other mass (macro gravity), doesn't that require a leap of faith?
the moon is moving away from the earth with 1,5 inshes each year proving that gravity does not exist.
there is a reason why they changed it from "the law of gravity" to "the theory of gravity" its iis because they know that its just a theory and that they can't prove it. so why believe in it anyways?
jesus walked on water and this couldn't happon if gravity exists.
clouds are unaffected by "gravity"
the expansion of the universe is accelerating thus proving that gravity is a lie.
on his death bed, Einstein admited that he made it all up.
birds and planes are unefected by "gravity".

I cannot understand how all you gravitationalists can just accept the ToG without having any evidence to back it up. and how can you say that believing in gravity requires no faith while god does? god is much more logical then gravity an requires much less faith.

… and it doesn’t take a genius or evolution to realize that no two people are alike, and not everyone is as smart, cool, handsome, and as talented as I am. :beach:

He's showing how faulty arguments can be used to show that a theory is false. In other words, what every post opposing evolution does. I don't think a reply is necessary.

your wording it wrong

it is a complete theory

are there pieces missing to certain puzzles yes there are and that is sciences job to fill those in. Once filled in if every possible the theory remains the same.

gravity will always drop the ball so to speak and creatures will always evolve due to enviromental changes.

No debate, end of story.

It is missing pieces, so its not complete. At a time in the future, there is a possibility that we might find evidence that evolution wasnt right. The theory wont stay the same, it will change with the information we get.
