Matthew 4:8 reveals a supremely shocking truth: "Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor".

A "very high mountain", eh? From which "all the kingdoms of the world" could be seen, eh?

But that would ONLY be possible if THE EARTH WAS FLAT, AND YET, THE EARTH IS ROUND!!!!

How can we ever again believe Christianity is a true and genuine religion given this glaring mistake! I say, "No! No! Tut! Tut! No! No!". That's what I say! What say you?

Well, if he was high enough to be able to see the entire Eastern Hemisphere then he could see all those kingdoms. Since Columbus had not yet gone on his voyage, God and Satan were not aware of the other continent yet. Outdated maps. ;)

Phhht....all it means is that the various kingdoms of the world all happened to be in spitting distance. The rest of the world was probably populated by Jeffersonian democracies, or something. This shows how ahead of his time Jefferson's thoughts were. They arrived almost 2000 years before he did.

Well... in reality that would be ONLY if you want to interpret it that way.

I have seen a panoramic view of the Kingdoms of this world on TV but  how does that translate that it is because the earth is flat? :p

I say you are too generous, by going so far in the Book.

Christian religion could already be declared dead at page 1 of the Book, given the evidence we have. You are basically killing something that has already self-aborted at the very beginning.

The bible being used to do science? You really got them now!

We all know that science is the reason the Bible was written. You don't need to read or study anything else because all knowledge is contained in the Bible! If you interpret it correctly, you will even gain certain foreknowledge of everything that will ever happen in the future too!

And since you believe all these things, I have a cult called "True Christianity" that you can come join* to gain some of the special insights that scholars poring over this magnificent tomb have revealed through numerological study.

Your lively wit and sense of humor just cracks me up! You must be the life of every party you're invited to.

Silliness like comparing language understandable to the readers of the day in metaphorical terms to modern knowledge and literal expectations and claiming some kind of deep meaning is a good way of convincing the faithful of the serious lack of genuine evidence the anti-Christian can provide. I suppose everyone who uses the terms sunrise and sunset is fundamentally in error and nothing they say can be taken seriously, right? There are far more serious problems in the NT than nonsense like this. But it takes actually reading and understanding what is said by the several authors of the NT to realize that and that takes more work than nitpicking like this.

Yes. problem is: I hate parties and human interaction at party level (e.g. smalltalk). I am actually quite introverted and shy.

For some reason, those humans like me more because of this and invite me to more of them. Go figure. :)

There are those who take exactly what you said very seriously. Remember Poe's Law? "Without a winking smiley or other blatant display of humor, it is utterly impossible to parody a Creationist in such a way that someone won't mistake for the genuine article." That works on the opposite side as well. I remember a website, defunct for years now, that claimed that because Genesis 1 does not explain Quantum Mechanics it is wrong. I expected a joke but the site was serious.

Anyway I don't get to express my viewpoint on the NT as often as I would like. So there! :p

It actually was flat when Jesus said that.

Then . . .

It's not just a scientific flaw, but also a flaw in politics. Not all human settlements were necessarily "kingdoms," as some may have been under a village-tribal system or perhaps some form of confederation or republic. Some kingdoms (such as Judea) were occupied vassals under the Roman Empire, so those kingdoms would technically have Jupiter as their prime deity. Satan would have no legal right to offer them, nor would Jesus have any right to accept, without first getting assent from Jupiter. What we know today as "God" was really just a small time local operation back in those days. ;)

I say pitiful baloney. Christ is both fully human, and fully God. satan is an extremely powerful spirit being. Neither can be restricted by your very limited perceptions. Christ limited himself, satan did not. What could be seen, perceived, observed is unlimited. Heck, today satellites can see round the world all in real time and they are just the result of puny human development. The only mistake is between your ears and your complete lack of understanding. Try again, your alleged checkmate is open on all sides with a number of squares. It isn´t even check, let alone checkmate.

By jove, I guess you've really gone and done it!!

It took 2,000 years, but you alone have done it.

You’ve single-handedly laid bear his failure for all to see and destroyed the very foundation of Christianity. No need for Dan Brown and the Da Vinci Code anymore.

Incredible! I just wish you hadn’t waited so long, I really do. It would have been nice if you’d done this before so many of us had to suffer through years of all that God-bothering, Bible-bashing nonsense!

:p

ROTFL...........

Like Jesus hadn't known the world before the devil confronted him with it. Ya just gotta love literalists.

Next up? We gather around to eat Jesus left leg. Don't forget to slurp up the blood.
