Château Beynac, built in the 12 century, once owned by Richard Cœur de Lion, (Richard the Lionheart). Very imposing in its commanding position over the river.

Just across the river Dordogne is Château de Castelnaud, first documented in the 13th century but may be older. Built to face its rival, Château Beynac.
Yes they are real, working trebuchets, they have an annual mediaeval festival during which they are test fired
It is now a museum of mediaeval armaments.

"Tannenburg" in Nentershausen, Germany. Hosts a medieval event every year and I'm often there. It's still inhabited and constantly worked at.
