Pirates of the Carribean is a great one too!

So good I forget it's a Disney movie. :biglaugh: Even though my daughter's dance troup did a ballet to the theme song...at Disney last spring.

<sigh> It must be tea time or something.

I too love Mulan.

It's that song...

"Ancestors, please help me...help me not to make a fool of me...."

I can so relate. :)

Beauty and the Beast is probably my "next" favorite.

If the company wasn't started by an anti-Semitic *******, I'd sent them a thank you card for that movie and the wonderful impact it had on my niece.

Wait-- Walt Disney was anti-semitic?! Wow. I thought he was an all around nice guy. I wish people could just keep their skeletons in their closets where they belong.

Get a classic cartoon; Snow White, Cinderelli Cinderelli...: hamster : , or Sleeping Beauty! Maybe Pete's Dragon if you like the half and half. I guess I pick Cinderella for GUS GUS! : hamster :

Heheee, I had a guinea pig that I named GusGus after that character!

I would say "The Little Mermaid", but I'm afraid that it had me wishing I was a "MerMeggie" for a number of years. The animation was heart-rendingly glorious, the movements seemingly effortlessly life-like. I still get chills when I sing "Part of your World". I also grew up loving "Robin Hood", both for my love of animals and the Robin Hood myth that I was into at the time.

For live action, Todd mentions the lovely "Chronicles of Narnia". I quite enjoyed Mr. Tumnus in that! (All fauns are Scottish, dontchaknow!) And, of course, there were all the wonderful creatures in it.

Probably two of my favorite animated ones would be "Mulan". It seems to speak to the thoughts of any girl who doesn't feel that what she is is good enough.

"Look at me
I will never pass for a perfect bride
Or a perfect daughter.
Can it be
I'm not meant to play this part?
Now I see
That if I were truly to be myself
I would break my family's heart.
Who is that girl I see
Staring straight back at me?
Why is my reflection someone
I don't know?
Somehow I cannot hide
Who I am
Though I've tried.
When will my reflection show
Who I am inside?"

Also, of course, a couple other scenes in the movie I loved.
The father telling his daughter ""The flower that blooms in adversity
is the most rare and beautiful of all"
mufather.jpg

And, of course, all of China bowing to a young woman!

For the character that I feel the greatest empathy with, I would choose Belle from "Beauty and the Beast". Her sheer joy at books and the delight she took in Beast showing her the castle's library! *happy sigh*

Um... do you just accept such accusations without question when you hear them? I just did a web search and the evidence is inconclusive, imo. My guess is that he did have some anti-semitic leanings but so did a lot of people at that time. It's not like he joined the Klan or anything like that.

Jeez louise, look at the Indian scene in Peter Pan. Is that not racist by today's standards? Or how about the movie 'Song of the South'? They pulled that from release because of the disparaging stereotypes against blacks. And Fantasia used to have a scene where dark-skinned, fat-lipped male fauns doted on fair-skinned, blonde-haired female fauns. While Fantasia is still available, Disney replaced that scene with something less offensive. Does that mean that I think Disney is racist? The company reflected the sensibilities at the time in which they made these films. Yes, I wish that Walt was a better person than he was. But it's unfair to expect him to have been without flaw.

Either 'Beauty and the Beast' or 'The Jungle Book', although I do like the majority of them. 'Fantasia' is an amazing work of art.

My favorite Disney movies are (and the reason I love it):

1. Atlantis (no random beaking out into song)
2. National Treasure (I live just south of DC)
3. Narnia (Need I say more?)
4. Mulan (I just do, not sure why atm)
5. Emperor's New Groove (Funny as Heck!)
6. Hercules (Always a fan of Greek/Roman mythology)
7. Tarzan (It's just a cool movie. And Jane is probably the most underappreciated Disney animated babe ;))
8. Lilo and Stitch (A fan of Polynesian and alien cultures)

Animated would either be Beauty and the Beast, Bambi, or Brother Bear...........and the last one I mentioned making me weep unexpectedly.

Personally, I think Brother Bear is the most underrated Disney movie ever, but that's just one woman's humble opinion.

Half and half would make me lean toward Bedknobs and Broomsticks or The Chronicles of Narnia.

Live action? Hmmmmmmmmm, I have a soft spot for Freaky Friday and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. :)

Peace,
Mystic

I cried @ Dumbo when I was a kid in the 80's, it made such a huge impression on me I would have to claim it as my favourite. I saw it again recently and felt similar emotions. I still love that darned elephant!
