Yes...this is a cop-out answer...and I feel just fine about it. ;-)
You know, Cal.....I thought the same thing about picking one solitary favorite from each category. It's almost impossible. So, I'd like to qualify my selection with the words, "These are my favorite musicians this week." There, now I won't have to feel guilty when I change my mind next week. Although U2 will more than likely retain their spot of high favor.

S'OK.

I'm all about the Joshua Tree, Rattle and Hum, and even dismantling nukes.

And...if you like, I'm listening to The Eagles' "Peaceful Easy Feeling" as I write, which may be my favorite band and song of all time.

I knew a girl once, and we were on a beach in Ocean City, Md., in the summer of 1976, and I was stupid bad in love...

*sigh*

Now see what you went and made me do?

Oh yes, but they are so much more. One attribute of U2 that I find courageous and dangerous and therefore awe inspiring is their willingness to change styles of music through the years. POP, released in early '97 was a critical but not popular hit. I adore that CD. They experimented with a more techno/electronic sound and did a fabulous job....imo.

I have to confess....I heard the Eagles so much growing up that if I never heard another Eagles song I would do just fine. Perhaps if a few more years go by without hearing them, they may once again sound fresh to me. I'm all about contemporary sounds and music. I am not a classic rock fan, except once in a blue moon. Of course, classical music never gets old. It's almost impossible to have it overplayed is why.
