This sounds awesome. In Colorado we didn't have Roman ruins. But I did enjoy digging up fossils. Had a few friends that knew places to dig in the mountains near Gothic, and in Aurora. The fossils in Aurora, Co were very interesting. We had to go through this fenced off ravine that was owned by the army. There was a hole in the fence my friend showed me when we were at his house (my brother and me). It was a fairly large fenced off piece of land as well (several square miles). There was a steep ravine maybe 100 feet down with a creek running at the bottom. We had to climb down the side to about halfway and then start digging into the dirt. Fossils of ferns and tropical plants immediately became visible. And it was painstaking to get them out because they were all still in dirt. Too much force or movement and they just crumbled.
I've shared this story with evolutionists on other forums and had a couple tell me that those fossils were from plate shifting and millions of years of continental drift. They were so full of it. Made me laugh. Those fossils were in dirt and fell apart and any slight movement.
The fossils in the mountains near Gothic Colorado were mostly ancient marine life, seashells and such. Really cool. I still have one sitting on a bookshelf.
Stratego. I forgot about that one. One of my faves as well.
My twin brother and I would play Stratego for hours. And Risk.

Having five brothers we got into all kinds of mischief. My dad always had the latest tech. Our first computer when I was a kid was a Commodore 16. I remember playing a cops and robbers game on that as my first video game. Just a cop with a baton running after a robber in a mask and you'd go up and down stairs and elevators. Our first console was the Atari. Remember when the Nintendo came out. We would take turns playing Super Mario Brothers and Duck Hunt and Tetris. And all those other classic NES games.
Spent hours at the local video arcade with my brothers. And now coming to think of it that reminds me of this bowling alley/video arcade we would visit called Celebrities. Man I haven't been bowling since I married over 20 years ago.
We would play basketball and football. Usually we'd go to the local rec center or elementary school that had it's doors open to the gym in the summer and we would play against neighborhood teams. We were a team (the six of us boys) both football and basketball.
Also the usual boy stuff hiking in the woods near the house, grabbing sticks and play sword-fight on the railroad tracks. That reminds me we would hitch rides on the railroad cars when trains would come by. Just all the stuff silly boys did back then. Once when camping up on Jefferson Lake one of my older brothers decided to take a "short-cut" from the lake back to the campsite through the woods and got us lost. I was crying the whole way thinking we were going to die. We eventually came to a river and followed it to a road where we flagged down a car. Park rangers were there almost immediately. My dad had waited for us to get back and after a few hours passed he alerted the rangers and they had a helicopter up looking for us and were assembling search teams. My older brother was in big trouble that time. I think I was 10 years old or so.
That recalls to mind another time, my older brothers were always getting me into trouble. It was a Halloween night and for some reason RTD (the bus system in Denver) was giving free rides and my brother was like let's hitch a ride up to grandad's. Well we got part of the way there and then had to get off I don't remember why. But we had to end up walking the rest of the way in the dark it took like an hour and a half walking. And the last 45 minutes was through the cemetery they lived near. We finally got to grandad's and surprised him and he scolded us and called my dad to let him know where we were. Then got out money and gave us all some for being adventurous and then gave us ice cream cones.
I could probably tell stories here for hours. But got to get going.
