Reports have surfaced that the FBI is creating “threat tags” on parents. It is reported that this action was on behalf of the “Counterterrorism and Criminal Division” of the FBI.

"The purpose of the threat tag is to help scope this threat on a national level and provide an opportunity for comprehensive analysis of the threat picture for effective engagement with law enforcement," the email reads. It was signed by Counterterrorism Division assistant director Timothy Langan, and former Criminal Division assistant director Calvin Shivers, who retired earlier this month.

Now didn’t the AG testify to Congress last month that he didn’t order the targeting of parents who criticize schools policies, let alone treat them as domestic terrorists?

Well, if by even just reading your post I could agree with you, if I treated "criticize schools policies" as the same as "the threat picture". But they are not the same. So I don't agree with you.

Is the FBI labeling parents who are merely critical of school policies?

Or those parents who are creating public disturbances and threatening school board members?

To my mind the latter is very much necessary for public safety. We are seeing way too much angry and violent behavior in public meetings, and in communications. Public officials are being threatened and are frightened. Some are resigning. This is unacceptable.

I agree, and fully support, the FBI placing 'threat tags' on parents who threaten teachers, students, and school board members over mask mandates in public schools. It is against the law to threaten another person with physically harm or death, whether the threat is carried out or not. "Depending on the state, a criminal threat can be charged as either a misdemeanor or felony offense. While felony offenses are more serious than misdemeanors, either of them can result in incarceration, fines, and other penalties" (Is Threatening Someone a Crime? I would partly agree that it's a local matter. Certainly the local police or state police should investigate and charge people with crimes as appropriate.

But it's also the job of the federal government to look for interstate organizations that might be involved with such crimes and to assist with threat assessment.

Based on what I'm reading, this seems reasonable.

No, what is going on at school board meetings is a local matter.

As if people living somewhere in the USA arn't under the jurisdiction of the FBI. Remember the FBI investigated civil rights issues in the South during the 60's that led to the Civil Rights Act. The reason was that local officials may side with those who pose a threat.

The Constitution guarantees rights, and even if violations and threats are "local" that doesn't mean they are not violations of the Constitution.
