My experiences with European television suggest neither are particularly scandalous there and I don't find either scandalous either.

Male nudity, no doubt. At least in this part of the world.

The cultural taboo in Brazil being very much slanted towards accepting female nudity or near-nudity while avoiding the male variety.

I can't say that bothers me much.

There is no logical basis for there to be any inconsistency on how each is approached or regarded. Nudity in and of itself is natural and shouldn't be considered scandalous. It's all on how it's done: artistic and tasteful vs. lurid and objectifying.

I'm not sure about "scandalous" but T&A is a dime a dozen in American media but male bits are more rare. I think genitals would probably be considered scandalous. We never see the vulva or an erect penis (even flaccid penises are rare) in, say, a R-rated movie. Frontal shots of a nude female are fairly easy to come across but male full-frontal nudity is more rare.

Neither is scandalous, to me.

well...most Italian men have a Pavarotti tummy...more or less. so I guess that the Riace bronzes do not represent males, in my country. besides men with statuesque body are considered gay

whereas almost all women have a tiny waist. so the women you see on TV are representative.

Sweety I've been to Rome and most of the dudes I saw were just plain scrawny.
