Do you find any practical application for either term? If so, why?

All I can say is that ‘masculine’ is how I feel with respect to my looks, how I dress, what kind of attar I wear, how I carry myself, how I speak, and how I feel in relation to a woman. As far as things such as responsibility, discipline, and strength go, I think those are essential in every person regardless of gender.
