Not Nancy!I'm thinking that typing now at 11:29 am
Can anyone read this now :
Sign in below...or I'll ignore, like anyone cares !
And why?
I have three.
One because they always filled their posts with pretentious rhetoric.
One because they could never stay on topic.
One because they were simply incoherent.
I disagree. I've been on RF for over ten years. Over that ten-year period, I have ignored only about 2 people -- that is, up until a couple of weeks ago when I put four individuals on ignore. I did so because despite continued attempts on my part to try to engage in meaningful dialogue with them, they were either unwilling or incapable of doing so. Every single comment I posted was met with some kind of a rude, often crude, and almost always very juvenile response. I don't really know much about the people I have on ignore right now, except that my life is a whole lot more pleasant without them. If I put everyone who disagrees with me on ignore, I'd have 99% of the posters on RF on ignore right now. If I put everyone who has ever been rude to me on ignore, I'd probably have 75% of the posters on ignore. When I put somebody on ignore, it's because it's either that or be in a state of perpetual frustration due to their never-ending ignorant, adolescent behavior. No one. The ignore feature is useless.........unless......you are being stalked by someone. Which at that point some moderation should be involved. But if you simply disagree with someone.....putting them on ignore only exposes your own weakness.
I have put people on ignore in the past. It's been a while, but I'd like to say there have been 3 people over the years. And one of them was banned for stalking me (thank you A_E for taking care of business several years ago when that happened).
I hadn't put people on ignore for disagreeing me, saying stupid crap about me, or even for rule violations against me. I had put people on ignore because of various triggering rhetoric displayed regarding sexual assault. Not really any fault of their own for having such opinions and sharing them. But for my own mental health so that I don't read it while skimming through threads and finding myself having to go through coping behaviors that take up part of my day.
If I just don't like you, I don't engage in dialogue. Like FTNZ, I put people I don't like on "soft ignore" and move toward the bulk of the RF membership that I do like being around and engaging with.
And, fwiw, there are plenty of people with whom I find myself at odds with ideologically, and are so far apart on values and perspectives, but who I really enjoy in a dialogue and debate.
I hacked into RF software.I have no one on ignore.
I wouldn't be surprised if people have me on ignore due to my sporadic and bizarre postings over the last few years.
edit: Ok weird...I just agreed in a sense. I'd probably ignore myself if was a sane person. So, yes, you are right. The feature isn't useless other than barring stalkers.
