Has our society deteriorated to the point where a celebration of peace is considered divisive, even satanic?

We're at war.

As an aside, some people think that a peace sign is an upside-down cross with broken arms. It's the sign that's considered satanic by these people, not peace itself.

From the mighty wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peace_sign

"Antagonism
The fact that the symbol resembles a bird foot in a circle gave rise to spurious alternative interpretations, ranging from plain mockery of "crow's foot" or "The Footprint of the American Chicken" (suggesting that peace activists were cowards) to a number of occult meanings, such as an upside down crucifix with the arms broken downward, suggesting the way that St. Peter was martyred. It is also seen by some as an anti-Christian symbol representing an upside down broken cross.[1] Others have claimed that the symbol represents a medieval sign known as "Nero's Cross" that represents Satanism [citation needed]. This comes from its resemblance to a similar symbol. Alternatively, some have suggested that the symbol is an inverted Elhaz rune, which would reverse the rune's general meaning from 'life' to 'death'."

By the way, peace is always a political statement.

Peace is now made with smart bombs.

The subdivision's rules say no signs, billboards or advertising are permitted without the consent of the architectural control committee.

If the newspaper is correct in relating the rules than Kearns has failed to follow them in seeking to fine the lady for not violating any of the rules. Something the fired board members already understood.

It has indeed become "WWJB" for the masses.

I want a peace wreath and I live in a Home Owner's Association. Let them TRY to take it down.

Actually,

The symbol is the CND's sign for Nuclear Disarmament, it is based on the position of Semaphore flags. As well a similar cross is an ancient Christian symbol which shows the cross on which Peter was crucified.

How unpopular it is to be persuasive for peace...

My fear is that civil disobedience and peaceful protest are slowly being outlawed in the UK.

I wonder what they would say if she turned it upside-down into an elhaz rune. Probably be accused of naziism too...
