Finland did not want to b e bataille during the war.Norway and Sweden did not want this t o happen so there did not let Briton and France access t o Finland. when Finland militaire fight Russia, averybody know that Finland is ally t o Germany.m y morfar he say that Finland did not like because Russia stjäla land from them in the war.this i s with the land to defend i n the TaliIhantala area. Finland stop Russia soldiers from crossing Scandinavia to attack Norway and Sweden then t o attack Germany from the north by Danmark and Netherlandern. there much lives save when doing this.

Not sure what you want to discuss, but i read recently that finland and denmark are two of the most trusting nations in the world. I guess that would mean they have a greater sense of the inherent worth of others. Maybe that has something to do with their actions during war?

Somehow managed to avoid being swallowed up by the Soviets throughout the cold war years. Quite an accomplishment.

Finland save many people not only in Norway and Sweden but allso Germans and Russians. General Mannerheiim he save many Russia lifes in Leningrad when Germany want to attack the city. Finland stop Russia from attackiing Scandinavia and save many lifes befojr. this is what is difficult to understand that Finland was ally to both Russia and Germany i n the war when Russia is enemy to Germany.this in vinterkriget i n Lappland is were many soldiers have die.

..but some clarification from Finn.

Finland got independence 1917
Civil war 1918-1919
Finland was at this point VERY poor country after hunders of years oppression first from Sweden, then Russia.
In November 1939 Russia attacked Finland without warning, this war - winterwar - ended March 1940. Russia planned to invade Finland in few weeks but it did not happen, instead we had winterwar-miracle. Even though finnish army did not have even proper uniforms, not to mention weapons Russia was only able to take Karelia(eastern part of Finland).
After the winterwar Russia threatened Finland and demanded more land, in deep fear Finland begged help from Europe and USA - no one helped, no one wanted to stand up against huge country like Russia ... except Germany. Mannerheim didn't want anything to do with Hitler but Germany was the only one willing to sell us weapons and train our soldiers.
25th of June 1941 Russian planes flew over Finland again and bombed our towns. War had started again.
Despite Hitler's demands Mannerheim refused to attack Leningrad.
Finland surrended 1944 and Karelia and some other areas were lost again(and to this day they are the only WWII -occupied areas that have not been returned).
After that Russia demanded that all German soldiers in Finland should be "exported". There were Germans in Northern Finland. So Finnish army was sent to Lapland and this war lasted winter1944-spring 1945. As germans withdrew they burned Northern Finland to the ground.

So our country was in piecesand Russia demanded 300 million American dollars as punishment for our "crimes". This was - believe it or not- a great thing for our country. 1945 Finland was one of the poorest countries in Europe - people suffered from hunger and died like flies. And we had to find new homes for war refugees from the lost eastern part of Finland.
Things did not look good.
But. We were forced to build up factories and find ways to get things going to pay the penalties. Goverment set up free healthcare system, especially pregnant mothers and children(mothers got paid if they went to check ups while pregnant)were taken good care. This system is still going on btw.
Every child gets paid over 100€/month until they turn 17. And you can google "maternity package Finland" to see what new mothers get.
So because my grandparents were forced to make things happen from nothing, I live now in safe, pretty rich country.

I don't know though if Finns saved any lives though. Denmark was under Germany and same with Norway. I highly doubt that Russia would have ever dared to attack Sweden.

Don't **** with Finland
Winter War - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Finnish losses
25,904 dead or missing
43,557 wounded
1,000 captured
957 civilians in air raids

Soviet losses
87,506+ dead
188,671 wounded & contused
39,369 captured and missing
58,370 sick
17,867 frostbites
2,268+ tanks

Now remember that the soviets outnumbered the Finns almost 3:1 and EASILY outclassed them in armor and air forces.
