Five Shoppers Killed in Salt Lake City Mall

Police were reporting "multiple" deaths after a man opened fire Monday night at a downtown Salt Lake City mall. Another five people were wounded in the 7 p.m. attack at Trolley Square before police killed the gunman.

Ron Mason and DeEta Barta, of Salt Lake City, said they were eating at the Desert Edge Brew Pub when they saw a man coming in from the west parking lot. The man, wearing a dark trench coat, was carrying a long rifle or shotgun.

They yelled, "There's a man with a gun!" A few seconds later they heard about 12 rounds.

The sixth was the shooter, thank goodness. At least we don't have to waste time and money on a trial for him. There are still four in the hospital. Hopefully they all make it ok.

Oh. That makes sense. I guess I should have read it.
Hopefully those four will make it.

Was there any indication of why the shooter went crazy?

That is so sad.

It's tragic that people can't even go to the mall anymore without fearing for their lives. I really hope that this surge in violence stops soon.

I just talked to my daughter. One of her closest friends works at a store in Trolley Square and witnessed the whole thing. She was pretty shook up.

Oh my, how awful. We were just there a month ago having dinner with my in-laws at the Spaghetti Factory. I just can't believe how something like this can happen. They are all in my prayers.

We will next time, I promise! We actually were only there for a couple of days, and since we have so much family we hardly saw them(I didn't even see my mom). We might be out there in the summer, so we will surely find time for you. I will let my hubby know how much trouble we are in.

Seriously, you need to do that. I understand if your time was limited, and obviously family comes first. But I would love to meet the two of you. I didn't realize you had family in Salt Lake. Are you from here originally?

Yes, Utah Valley. Most of our family lives there too.

My prayers will be going out to everyone. I gotta admit, I'm selfish, so I thought of our forum members first.
My wife just gave me an update on this event.

She just went to the the Jordan River temple today and the woman who gave her a ride said that a man in a South Jordan stake (group of Mormon wards or churches in our area) not sure which one in South Jordan, not our stake though, was killed and his son is critically injured in the hospital. Also another perosn in another stake was killed.

So the person who gave my wife a ride to the temple today said to submit the name of the deceased man's son on the temple role...

His name is A.J. Walker...

Such a tragedy and must not be allowed to happen again anywhere....

Hate and violence are escalating in these last days due to the numbing affects of various disturbing movies, music, internet sites, video games, etc. in my opinion....
