Folk Islam

Sha'irullah

Lol is there such a thing?

I actually brought this up before.

Folk Islam is more of a guilty pleasure and heavily disdained by Muslims that it stands outside of Islam altogether.

Folk Islam is to Islam what Rastafarianism is to Christianity. They claim the same origin but they have little in common.

It's RastafarI. No -isms allowed; please respect the elders of the Nyabinghi FIRE!!!!!!!!! :clap2::clap2::clap2:

PS. Islam means peace. There's no need to be a religious Muslim as long as you believe in one God. At least in my world; I don't know about the more Orthodox forms of Islam.

No sorry Islam, unlike other religions, has clearly defined boundaries and has retained its orthodoxy more than any other religion. It is a very great sin to mix the religion of Allah with practices of animism and other beliefs.

But what if Animism is true? I believe in the possibility of Animism (surely since everything is made up of energy and particles and what-not). And what says in the Quran that the concept of everything having a spirit is wrong? It's not like you're worshiping them.

Surat Al-Kafirun - The Noble Qur'an - ?????? ??????
I believe in the possibility of Animism (surely since everything is made up of energy and particles and what-not).
Then I wish you the best and fulfillment in it.
And what says in the Quran that the concept of everything having a spirit is wrong?
Perhaps if you would post the specific verse we could discuss it?
It's not like you're worshiping them.
That's ok. Either way in Islam we draw understanding about religion and our existance from the Qur'an which is the word of God and the sayings of our Prophet Muhammad, sallallhu alayhi wa sallam, who was the messenger of God and revealed the right way. From these two sources come our understanding, exegis, and works of our scholars and that is where we look for purpose. That is Islam so please respect that.

Islam means Submission. The al-Ikh'wan al-Muslimin was one of the first to propagate the "Islam means peace" statement.
Islam shares a lot of roots with Salam but it does not mean peace although it can easily be peaceful.

I will get hailed with flak for this but I just cannot be a devout Muslim. It is impossible. I cannot be a Muslim and not be a skeptic of everything. I am such a naturalist at heart it is surprising I even believe in God.
I give admiration for those Muslims who can read the Qur'an agree with it wholly. Beats me

Those verses do not condemn Animism. Anyone can interpret a sacred text really even though if sacred texts are perfect then there would really be no interpretations. I don't really like to confine anything into one black cube, really. But then again, hopefully there's no conflict in this post.

They do no't condemn anything, but they establish that there can be plurality in religions but for us [Muslims] there is only Islam.

Again the problem with syncreticism is that you are taking inspiration from un-Islamic sources
I don't really like to confine anything into one black cube, really.
And that is your prerogative but please understand that this is the Islam DIR not the syncretic DIR. You can ask questions on Islam and if you are a Muslim create discussions and share links.
The al-Ikh'wan al-Muslimin was one of the first to propagate the "Islam means peace" statement.
From my understanding the term came to media attention when George Bush said that Islam is a religion of peace post 9/11. Very rarely will you see Islamic scholars make that statement and when they do they are almost always talking about inner spiritual peace.

I think it is a matter of strengthening your faith.. by that I mean.. stop looking for things that conflict your understanding stop studying it and start practicing it first..slowly work towards 5 prayers..fasting..etc..they all help in strengthening faith.. I am also a believer that studying the Quran alone without relying on any sort of supplements in the form of either Hadith or a learned Alim..can lead to mass confusion..

Eitherway..you should do what feels best..theres no compulsion.

P.S I liked you better when your title said Muslim..:p

So you're saying to not use your intuition, but to trust only religion? Friend, I like you and I like Muslims (not in a romantic way), but we need to develop our minds and to learn how to harness it. That's what life is all about is expanding creation. How do we do that? Through using the power of the mind.

That was directed at Sterling...

Mate by expanding your mind you mean asking childish questions about gravity..then I am sorry I'll pass..;)

I have looked into the concepts you speak of.. have you ever come into contact with any entities?
