Or God led the Israelites out of Egypt, but not the Philistines and Amos was simply using historical fiction to help express a point he was trying to make.Aqualung said:Can you give me any evidence that the Israelites were led out of their captivity? Probably a similar amount. Either God led both out, and both were recorded, or God led neither out, yet both were still recorded.
That's true.Aqualung said:No. Does that mean we should disregard Amos? Different prophets teach about different things.
But you think something as big as the God of the Israelites also helping other peoples out of captivity would be something mentioned more frequently than a single obscure passage, if it were true that is.
Also there is evidence for the Philisitines being a sea faring nation, possibly from Europe, but there is no evidence for them being slaves prior to their settling on the coast of Canaan.
Sure, but we're not talking about revelations from God, we're talking about supposed historical fact. Its just something i'd expect to see mentioned more than once in the bible if it were true, or had an historical basis in fact.Aqualung said:Why? Many of the prophets were the only ones to teach certain things.
If you read the passage again, it doesn't actually mention anything about captivity.Aqualung said:I would say that that is one of the meanings, but not the only. Notwithstanding the fact that God DOES want them to be at least equal, if not better, that does not diminish the fact that God says he led those people out of their captivity as well.
