The head of westboro thugs is close to death in hospice care. Is it wrong that I can't get smile off my face?

Wrong? :shrug:

On another forum, they were talking about having a protest at his funeral. If I could get to Kansas, I would be up for it ... but my protest sign would be "We forgive Fred Phelps."

That decision is not entirely unselfish. Yes, I am serious about forgiveness ... but for those who choose to remain upon their self-destructive path, I also remember that bit from the Gospels about "heaping burning coals upon their heads."

Honestly, his dying/death is as irrelevant to me, personally, as just about any other stranger's. I feel neither any satisfaction or sadness. I've never really picked up the common social practice of affecting sympathy for people who exist to me as abstractions.

You know, the man believed in something. Maybe he was wrong. Probably. I think so. But he stood for something. Ask yourself, "what do I stand for?" Am I willing to suffer ridicule for it? Will I suffer for my beliefs? I admire that one aspect of the man. His life was not useless.

So, using the same logic, you also would admire Hitler in the same way?

I love that passage and God revealed the reality of it years ago way before I was a Christian when I flipped open a bible, saw those words, and gave it a try in the midst of a situation with a mean and threatening person.

Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. Therefore“If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
If he is thirsty, give him a drink;
For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.”

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 11:19-21

I hope Fred Phelps repents and seeks God's forgiveness before he dies.
