IMO, it means the government cannot suppress your right to criticize the government. It limits the power of government.
Seems important to avoid a dictatorship
Doesn't limit the power of individuals,
corporations, non-governmental organization
to hold an individual accountable for their speech.
And I assume, similar as the government above, these corporations and non-governmental organizations, also cannot suppress your right to criticize the corporations and organizations. It limits the power of corporations and organizations, right? (Like Big Tech Big Pharma, Big Anything)
Lots of non-governmental entities out there that can hold you accountable for what you say.
And we hold them accountable for their actions and words

Should we also abide by the law, if, for example, the chosen president doesn't keep his promises he made and turns out to become a dictator who takes away all our freedom?

Should we still abide by the law?
“When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty.” - attributed to too many people to list

Your reply seems to imply that you agree that in that particular case it's okay to not abide by the law

I agree with that. IF a president acts not Dharmic (righteous) THEN we need not follow his Adharmic (unrighteous) law, right?
In this context I remember a story, where Shiva was meditating. Kamadeva tried to seduce Him; one glance of his 3rd eye turned her into vibuthi
As per legend, Shiva used His Third Eye to burn Kamadeva, the Indian god of lust. According to legend, Kamadeva crouched behind a tree and arrowed Shiva in the heart. Shiva became a little uneasy. In order to burn the god of lust to ashes, He opened His flaming Third Eye.

I would say you are free to speak until you are asked to stop. If you then chose not to stop, then if harm can be proven you should face the consequences. If no harm is done speak all you like.

All people have the right to speak and all people have the right to defend themselves from harm. Words can cause harm.
There is not a single word in all infinity that can ever harm you.

I suppose free speech is the cornerstone of a good democracy and that democracy has made laws which determine the acceptable parameters.

But what I find annoying is how certain types of platforms or news outlets, use the idea of free speech to promote lies and hate, so to further very their questionable agendas. That needs looking at.

Actions can be harmful. Words are not harmful in any regard.
So, I'm guessing you'll be able to live your life well without them, with only being taught specific ones or with a life where everyone repeated only negative words at you. From birth or in the school years or in your current life. You'd be fine because words can't harm you. How did you learn that, did it involve any words.

Sure. But it dosent change the fact that not a single word can't hurt me at all.

Action can, but never words.

Freedom of speech means the government can't arrest you for talking **** about them.

Your fee to say anything else you want. But you are not free from the consequences of said speech.

Maybe you just don't know how to use them or don't understand what you are doing to others.

I can crush a person with words, reduce them to crying shells afraid to leave there houses.

I can make people feel uncomfortable around me so they actively seek to avoid me and get upset stomachs or headaches if they come near me.

I can influence people to hurt others with words alone.

With words alone I can make people mad so mad they'll resort to violence.

If you can't do this or don't understand this you have lived a sheltered life and I hope you continue to be blessed.
