Games of old that you think have aged well.

That is, games that still hold up today, even after many years have passed.

My personal top pick is Star Fox 64. This game is just as much fun now as it was when I first played it. ^_^

I also recently started playing the first Wing Commander game, and I'm amazed at how well that's aged. For a space flying sim that's not even true 3D, that game's amazing in the strategy and tactical thought required to play. (Plus, I love the manual. You know a game's good when the manual gets praise.)

Others off the top of my head are:

Super Mario Bros.
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Final Fantasy VI (that's III in America)
Silent Hill (first one) *shudder*

I was going with pinocle and rummy as games of Old. Guess I'm just a little bit older.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
Doom I & 2
Super Smash TV
Scorched Earth
Contra & Super C
Populous
Dungeon Keeper 1 & 2

Oh yea, Populous. It was a Marmite game, yet I really enjoyed trotting around the globe!

Contra as well. Come to think of it, I remember the early Metal Gears on Nintendo.

Duke Nukem Forever is supposed to finally come out sometime 1st quarter 2011. I hope it lives up to its predecessor.

For awhile I took it as being a series shelved for good by way the development went. Took some real nasty turns. I had my RIP wreath all set, but its the Duke were talking about.

To me, if it doesn't still have that old school flavor I'm going to blow my head off with the missile launcher and then go to the strip club. ;)

I got it from the Brits. It was the brand name for a jar of food spread that upon tasting, you either really liked it or absolutely hated it.

Ah, so marmite game = niche game. gotcha. :)

Have you played any of the Dungeon Keeper games? They were made by the same (now defunct) studio that made Populous. They're still a blast to play to this day.
