Our temple will have large festival as usual, but we start the annual 10 day festival before that, which is actually bigger. You remember Mumbai, I bet.

I'm really hoping I can get off of work for this. If not, then I'm going to miss it again. :(

Otherwise, my temple is going to have a small celebration and puja.

Ganesha is bigger in my house-hold now than Shiva and Vishnu, but no special puja. Of course, my wife has vowed to visit Siddhi Vinayaka for getting our grand daughter admitted in a nice Dentistry college, (Manipal University, Mangalore).

It's August 29 here, and the largest crowd of the year at this temple, because several groups come at once.

Namaste.

I will do my normal adventure, I purchase pure clay and make a Ganesha image, paint it with those water soluable paints, have it ready by August 29, the keep this Ganesha in a special shrine, then on Sept 7 Sunday I will immerse the Ganesh in a river here in California (Ganesh Visarjan). I wiil be back from Hawaii before all of this, but I am purchasing the clay today for the image.

I will upload a picture of my Ganesha for all this once I am done. Typically about 5 to 6 inches tall or so.

Let's share our pictures of our royal guest when time has come

It will be huge in Paris too, again like every year. Unfortunately, still too far away for me to attend... again like every year.

You remember Mumbai, I bet.

If only you could imagine what is Ganesha Chathurthi there...

Sounds great JayaBolenath! And i would encourage others to do the same, it is a great devotional way to experience Hinduism directly in one's life. I am sure there are others who do the same, and it would be exciting and inspiring to share our pictures of our Ganesha made with our own hands.

So I have started the creation of my Ganesha Chaturthi 2014 using clay, in fact the basic murti shape has been completed and is drying. This year it seems the results are good, smaller than typical from the past but more refined. Then I will sand down some ruff edges etc and paint using water based childrens paint. I am excited to share the results when done, this is a festive time each year.

You too?

So here is the INPROGRESS Ganesha 2014 so far, but a lot of fun work still to do.

The clay has hardened, I have started smoothing the ruff edges, and applying the water soluable kids paints. Here is the first coat. Once the final finishing is done, I will share the update. Hope this inspires others, had a wonderful 2 hours in a public park working my Ganesh 2014.

Jai Lakshmi Maa
I made a small clay Ganesh this year from clay I found in my garden a few feet below the soil. I wasn't really thinking of Visarjan when I made him .(I was experimenting mostly) So I went overboard and stuck beads in his face for eyes and for a crown. I don't feel like I can submerge him with those plastic materials embedded in him, so I will break a piece of him off to submerge in the local river and the rest I will run water over in my garden.

So I have completed my Ganesha for Ganesh Chaturthi 2014 and Visarjana, after FOUR coats of water soluable paints. I added actual earrings.
I still have to set up the little altar.
His name is Royal Ganesha and smaller than previous years.
Soon I will set up the altar, then later he is submerged into a Delta river.

So here is my Ganesha made of clay, say "Hi"!

... the amount of vibrational, bhaktic energy that must now reside in that mUrti ! Superbly made, graciously and devotionally crafted. A reminder that devotion from the self is unconquerable, and will always surpass rudimentary guidelines enlisted upon oneself by another. Truly a gift to the eyes. Thank you for sharing, SF.

That is a cute Ganesha with large ear rings for large ears, blessing all people. Where is Mushaka and Laddoos. Keep them ready when the time comes. :D
I still do not know what plans my son has for Ganesha Chaturthi. He will put his demands at the last moment and my wife will have to fulfill them. Ganesha at home means invite to all relatives, neighbors, food, etc.
